Panerai is a brand with famous history and amazing heritage that is nicely preserved and shown through the authentic style of every new model. Serving as the official supplier of Royal Italian Navy for more than 50 years, the renowned Italian watchmaker has developed a number of iconic watches which names still deserve to be an important part of the Panerai’s range. Even more, various reinterpretations and redesigned versions of Radiomir and Luminor timepieces make the majority of that range.
Panerai’s Historic Collection is especially dedicated to the brand’s past. It recalls the first water-resistant military diver watches, called Panerai Radiomir. They had been used by Italian commandos in the most delicate actions, since 1938. These timepieces got the name after the special substance that gave them superb luminosity in dark. By adding the new device that protected the winding crown, some Radiomir watches became water-proof up to 200 meters (330 feet), which was an amazing achievement for the early 1940’s.
After the new luminous substance based on tritium had replaced Radiomir mix, the new Luminor line was born. Since 1993, Officine Panerai has produced a numbered series in a limited edition of models, aimed at the civilian market. Among them, there are Luminor and Luminor Marina timepieces which are now the permanent part of the Historic Collection. Several years later, the new Radiomir was born again.
Today, the collection has been expanded with various new models that incorporate the latest, highly advanced in-house technology and new durable materials, but still preserve the unique vintage look. The highlights of the Historic Collection are Radiomir 8 Days Ceramica and Luminor 1950 8 Days GMT timepieces.
