Citizen Watch Company was founded in 1918, in Tokyo, Japan, by the name of Shokosha Watch Research Institute. In 1930, the company took on current name for two reasons. The first reason was a pocket watch called Citizen that Japanese corporation produced in 1924. More importantly, founding fathers concluded that this name will be appealing to all the people around the globe.
