When the first Royal Oak Offshore was launched at the Baselworld Watch Fair, back in 1993, it immediately took the central stage as the only oversized luxury watch in the world. The brave idea of making the radical aesthetic turn, by redesigning the brand’s signature Royal Oak model, came from a young designer, Emmanuel Gueit. By turning functional features into distinctive design elements, he created an extremely robust timepiece for the time, which quickly became one of the world’s most recognizable and sought-after luxury sport watches.
Firstly crafted in stainless steel, then in much lighter and stronger, high-tech materials, such as forged carbon, ceramic and Grade 5 Titanium and finally, in luxurious gold, Royal Oak Offshore timepieces have been always powered with high-end mechanisms. Today, they are equipped by ultra-quality Audemars Piguet manufacture self-winding movements.
The Royal Oak Offshore became the fashion trend and the big passion of many celebrities, from actors Colin Farrell and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Formula 1 drivers Jarno Trulli and Juan Pablo Montoya. Many of them got their special collection of ROO watches. The most famous among them is the End of Days Offshore model that was specially crafted for the Arnold Schwarzenegger’s movie End of Days. This extremely robust, military watch was the fist luxury model to use an industrial textile strap.
