Deriving from the Officer’s sub-collection which is a part of the Classic series of Victorinox Watches, new Day Date Mechanical timepiece is a solid and classy looking watch with a self-winding mechanical caliber. Available with traditional silver or black patterned faces, the watch is not really ground-breaking or exceptionally advanced (it only includes a calendar with day and date displays among additional functions), yet it certainly possesses a lot of charm that is achieved through its appealing unpretentious classic style and the addition of a mechanical beating heart. An additional perk of acquiring this product, is the fact that Victorinox (one of two original manufacturers of iconic Swiss Army knives) gives away a pocket knife in the color that matches the color of the watch’s face.
Victorinox Classic Officer’s Day Date Mechanical timekeeper is, as expected, fitted in a circular case made from 316L stainless steel. The choice of material used for its housing is not surprising at all, considering that even the latter part of the brand’s name is made from the French word for this metal, and that the company has a lot of experience in construction of quality products from it. In this occasion, the steel case has the diameter of 40 mm, again in accordance with the classic theme and inconspicuous style that is featured throughout its Classic series of timekeepers. The back of the housing is screwed-in, and its construction (mostly due to this trait) guarantees water resistance to 100 meters. It means it can be used quite safely for both swimming and snorkeling, even though it hardly looks like a watch appropriate for the beach. Its design is more appropriate for business and formal occasions.
The interesting looking face of the watch is guarded with a high-end sapphire crystal with triple anti-reflective coating, as it is a very common practice for the models by Victorinox Swiss Army. Underneath the crystal, we can see a nice looking face with not too big Arabic numerals, and a central patterned segment which gives the watch a sort of three-dimensional appearance. This is even more enhanced with the slightly raised flange with minute markers. The feature that is responsible for the part of the product’s name, its day and date displays, are placed at the traditional three o’clock position. Still, it is very hard to resist the thought that the brand could have executed these apertures in a more appealing and better looking way. The legibility of the watch is improved with the fact that the Swiss brand opted to coat hour and minute hands, as well as hour markers, with luminous coating. Besides, the timepiece includes a blue-colored central second hand. As it has been noted, the only two choices for the color of the dial are silver and black.
The beating heart of the timekeeper is self-winding mechanical ETA 2836 caliber. It is a movement that incorporates 25 jewels in its design, and beats at the high-frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The available power reserve for this caliber is 38 hours.
There are three versions of Vicorinox Swiss Army Classic Officer’s Day Date Watch and two of them with silver faces, while just one of those in black. The model 241547 has a silver dial and a black leather strap. The next one, the version 241548, also has a silver face. However, in this instance, the watch has a stainless steel bracelet. The last of the versions (with the reference 241546) has a black dial and a black leather band.
