With the New Chinese Year of the Horse approaching, several watchmakers pay homage to the noble animal spirit with their special edition horse-themed watches. To celebrate the Horse sign, Ulysse Nardin launched a new limited edition Classico Horse watch that boasts a champlevé engraving dial with wild horses in free gallop.
The horse is the seventh symbol in Chinese Zodiac and one of Chinese favorite animals. It is a symbol of free-spiritedness, power, emotion and speedy success. Considering the fact that Horse has provided a good and quick transportation for people before automobiles, it is also a symbol of traveling.
According to the Ulysse Nardin, the dial was created by using the intricate champlevé method where cells are carved with a chisel directly on the dial surface and filled with enamel. Its earth-tone palette of black, white, tan, gray and green is made from various metallic oxides, perfectly illustrating the natural landscape and its small band of wonderful creatures. After that, the piece is fired until the enamel melts and is polished when the surface cools. As the final result we have an extraordinary piece of art produced by the hands of master artisans.
The horses illustrated on the watch’s dial appear to gallop with liberty, while the expansive plains and impressive mountains in the background meet their arrival. The gorgeous champlevé dial is protected with anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass.
The case of the Classico Horse watch (ref. 8156-111-CHEV_V5) is crafted from 18-karat rose gold and it measures 40mm in diameter. When you turn the watch upside down, you can see a sapphire crystal window fixed with screws that allows you to enjoy the inner beauty of the movement. The heart of this exceptional timepiece is the in-house manufactured caliber UN-815 self-winding movement officially certified by COSC (Contrôle official Suisse des Chronometres). Furthermore, the watch is constructed to resist water pressure of up to 50 meters.
The Ulysse Nardin watch that pays tribute to the Horse sign arrives on a blue leather strap that nicely matches with the bluish tones of the mountains and plains on its dial. This exceptional timepiece is secured to stay on its future owner’s wrist with a rose gold tang buckle.
The manufacturer describes the new limited edition timepiece as a “symbol of one’s freewill balanced by self-discipline” and at the same time as a watch created for the independent-minded people. If you fancy the new Classico Horse watch, do not wait to buy it because only 88 pieces are produced.
