During the last couple of years, titanium became a very popular material in high-end watches. Tissot recognized this trend and launched several models crafted from titanium. The most representative timepiece made of this material is stylish and sporty Tissot Titanium Chronograph Watch.
This Chronograph from the T-Sport Collection is housed in a round, masculine case which measures 43 mm x 43 mm and it is 10.92 mm thick. The lightweight case weighs only 110 grams and it can be attached either to a titanium bracelet, or a rubber strap.
The watch case is protected with a thick, scratch resistant sapphire crystal and provides decent water resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet). On the right side of the case, there is a small screw down crown and two button-shaped chronograph push pieces. This Tissot comes with a fixed titanium bezel.
Titanium chrono features a slightly restyled dial with three sub-dials. The symmetrical positioning of the edged chrono sub-dials proves that dynamism really counts. Two chronograph counters for measuring 1/10th of a second and 30 minute are displayed at 2 and 10 o’clock positions, while 60 seconds sub-dial is located at the 6 o’clock position. There is a mid-sized date display situated at the 4 o’clock position. The hour and minute hands are skeletonized and they have luminous material on their tips. The hour markers also feature luminous material, whilst a 60 minute scale set at the outer rim nicely rounds the dial surface.
The Swiss manufacturer offered five different models of Titanium Chrono. Four versions are accessorized with titanium bracelets ending with deployment clasps with push buttons, and you can choose among different color options of the dial. If you like a sleek, black dial surface, then the perfect model for you will be T069.417.44.051.00. For those who prefer more elegant models, I recommend the model with the referent number T069.417.44.031.00 which matches a silver dial. There is also a blue dial version with the referent number T069.417.44.041.00, and an anthracite dial option with the reference T069.417.44.061.00. If you prefer more comfortable wristlets, I suggest the model T069.417.47.051.00 attached to a black rubber strap.
Tissot Titanum Chronograph can be purchased for the retail price of $775, while the version with a rubber strap can be bought for $50 less than for the models with titanium bracelets.
In my opinion, titanium is better material than stainless steel, although the latter is very good. For example, it is approximately half the weight of steel for the same volume with a density of 4.5 g/cc versus 7.8 g/cc for steels. Thus, for the cases that have the same strength, the titanium one would be half the weight of a high grade steel case.
