Every year Tissot honors its ambassadors with special edition watches. For 2013, the Swiss watchmaker prepared several special editions that celebrate top athletes (Tissot T-Race Nicky Hayden Limited Edition 2013, for example). The latest newcomer is T-Race Thomas Lüthi Limited Edition 2013 launched to pay homage to its Swiss ambassador and an amazing professional motorcycle road racer.
Tissot honored Thomas Lüthi by taking his personal logo as inspiration for the creation of his new watch. The colors of racer’s team, Interwetten Paddock Moto2, give the piece a sober aspect with its grey base and black dynamic stripes that represent the circuits on which it all happens.
Like the previous Thom Lüthi’s timepieces, the new watch (the referent number is T048.417.27.057.10) features the Swiss made ETA G10.211 Quartz chronograph movement. It is housed in a round stainless steel case with unchanged dimensions 45.3 x 50.26mm and with the thickness of 12.67mm.
There is also a recognizable black rotating GMT bezel, inscribed with white Arabic numerals, as well as a crown with crown protection and two chronograph pushers. Shielded with scratch-resistant sapphire crystals, the case provides water resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet).
The new Thomas Lüthi watch will definitely keep you right on track the whole way. Lüthi’s nickel-plated thunder bolt on the black dial ignites the timepiece, with yellow details, thus adding to the eye-catching effect. The central seconds hand, as well as chrono sub-dials hands are colored in a striking yellow, and dashes of yellow are also added to the minute track.
Thomas Lüthi’s race number 12 is surrounded with a yellow frame and further highlighted by bold white lettering. Traditionally, 1/10th of a second and 30 minutes chronograph counters are situated at 2 and 10 o’clock positions, while a small seconds sub-dial is set at the 6 o’clock position. A black-on-white date window is displayed at the 3 o’clock position and it is highlighted with an oversized magnifying lens.
The case back of the new Lüthi’s watch features a racer’s lucky number 12 and his name.
Tissot T-Race Thomas Lüthi Limited Edition 2013 is produced in a limited quantity of 2112 pieces. The retail price at the Tissot web store (http://us.tissotshop.com/) is $925. If you are a true fan of the Swiss road racer that is currently competing in the Moto2 Grand Prix World Championship, then this Tissot novelty is more than perfect for your wrist.
