Although it is a less complicated Grand Carrera’s watch, it is still real pleasure to own this sporty and elegant Tag Heuer’s model. Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS is a simple two-hand timepiece that uses the inevitable RS disc for displaying elapsed seconds. Thanks to its clear dial that shows only the basic time-telling and date functions, you can enjoy without distractions in small details that are integral parts of each Grand Carrera watch.
First thing that I noticed on Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS watch was the amazing polishing of all steel surfaces which gives fantastic luminosity to the watch. A great job has been done on the flat and plain bezel of the watch. The Swiss watchmaker used both polished and brushed surfaces to create a special effect and to stress a beautiful dial.
Visually, you can mark out three parts of the dial. Firstly, there is a tiny outer rim with minute indices, then circular textures with raised, hand-applied hour markers, and finally, a flat inner circle that features Tag Heuer’s logo, Grand Carrera Calibre 6 inscription, highly polished minute and hour hand, as well as a Rotating System Disc which is, along with its advanced technological aspect, a true piece of art in term of design, featuring Côtes de Genève decoration. Luminous coating on markers and hands contributes to superb readability.
Touch of Elegance
Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS watch has smaller case than other timepieces from the collection. (Read my reviews of Grand Carrera Calibre 8 RS, Grand Carrera Calibre 17 RS and Grand Carrera Calibre 36 RS.) With the diameter of 40.2 mm comes a slightly more elegant look than we used to from Grand Carrera timepieces. The case is made of stainless steel which is both polished and brushed. Two variations of this model are available with the compatible steel bracelets.
However, my favorite version is the one with a black alligator strap that practically takes the watch away from the world of motor-racing (that was the initial inspiration for the entire collection), giving it a strong note of elegance. This combination is available with either black or white dial. I can hardly decide which one looks better, but if I had to choose, I would probably take the one with a white dial. The Swiss watchmaker also provides a brown dial variation, perfect in the combination with a brown alligator strap.
The watch is powered with a Calibre 6 self-winding movement which is a derivative of ETA 2892. This COSC certified chronometer beats with 28,000 oscillations per hour (4 Hz) and has a power-reserve of 44 hours.
Solid water-resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet) is insured by an oversized screw-in crown with two security gaskets. Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 6 RS is also protected with sapphire crystals on both sides.
