Redesigned to look more sophisticated and mature, new 2012 Collection of these super attractive timepieces is much ahead of any previous Formula 1 edition. A new Formula 1 Grande Date watch with a small seconds sub-dial and a F1 watch with the Alarm functions are presented in just two color variations, in a simple form, reduced of all unnecessary elements.
The trend of mixing sport features with a sophisticated design, which is nicely implemented in the ladies’ Formula 1 range, now is also presented through the men’s line. Furthermore, if you compare the 2010 Link Series with the redesigned 2011 version of this elegant collection, you will probably notice similar improvements that the Swiss watchmaker smartly added to its latest creations, in order to position the brand on the next level.
The first thing that you will notice if you compare the new series with the previous one is the absence of polyurethane bumpers, which compared with the new design looks pretty childish to me. Besides, the dial looks much serious, now. It is designed in a more sophisticated way and its simplicity makes the watch looks far more expensive. Tag Heuer used curved and polished hand-applied hour indices and the Arabic numeral 12, all covered with luminescent markers. Hour and minute hands are also polished and covered with luminescent markers.
New Tag Heuer Formula 1 Grand Date watch has a small second sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position, with a nicely designed spiral pattern that emphasizes the Grande Date double window. This timepiece has a 42 mm case, crafted in stainless steel, which incorporates a unidirectional rotating bezel with minute indices, split at 5 minute intervals.
There are five variations of Formula 1 Grande Date watch, depending on a material and color. Two models with stainless steel bezels come with a white dial (WAU1113) or a black dial (WAU1112). They are only available with brushed stainless steel bracelets.
Three versions of the new Tag Heuer’s creation incorporate black, titanium-carbide bezels. The first one (WAU1111) features a white dial, a model WAU1110 with a black dial is available either with a rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet, while the most striking version (WAU1114) comes with a black dial with red detailing.
New Tag Heuer Formula 1 Alarm watch is also available with a 42 mm case, made of brushed stainless steel that matches the material of a fixed bezel and a bracelet. Still, the perfect combination of brushed and polished finishes creates a beautiful contrast between these parts. There are two variations – the version with a black dial (WAU111A) and the one with a white dial (WAU111B). Each of them features two sub-dials with a circular pattern: the alarm sub-dial is located at the 9 o’clock position, while the small second counter takes the 3 o’clock position. The Grande Date with a double window is placed at the 6 o’clock position.
All watches from the new Tag Heuer’s 2012 Formula 1 Collection (including the F1 Chronograph – read the review) are covered with sapphire crystals. They incorporate screw-in crowns with “easy grip” systems and double gaskets which contribute to the great water-resistance up to 200 meters (660 feet). They are powered with Ronda quartz movements.
