Two years ago, when the renowned Swiss watchmaker launched a special Carrera Calibre 17 model to mark the 80th birthday of the brand’s legendary president Jack Heuer, it was pretty clear that this stunning watch deserved to be re-launched soon. That really happened and two new versions of Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 17 Jack Heuer Edition (ref. CV5110 and CV5111) showed up in the brand’s boutiques. Featuring the same design concept that looks truly amazing with new color combinations, these novelties bring one significant improvement in terms of technology – both of them are powered by COSC certified chronometers.
New models present interesting combinations of colors, a beautiful contrast between dials and chrono counters. While the commemorative edition combines a silver dial with dark-gray sub-dials, Ref. CV5110 model features an anthracite dial with silver chronograph counters. Finally, the Ref. CV5111 model comes with even more striking look, presenting blue chronograph counters and tachymeter scale on the outer rim, against a silver dial. The arrangement on new dials is the same, which is basically the traditional chronograph lay-out, used on the original model from 1964. It is not surprise that the name of Jack Heuer is linked to this edition, since no one else than Mr. Heuer was responsible for the launch of this best-selling model half a century ago.
The 30-minute counter is at the 9 o’clock position, while the small-second sub-dial takes the 3 o’clock position. The date window is placed at the 6 o’clock position, opposite to the vintage Heuer logo in striking red. Polished applied hour markers look great on the sun-burst dial.
Compared to the Jack Heuer 80th Birthday Edition, novelties do not include Heuer family crest and Jack Heuer’s signature on their case-backs, although they feature the same Red Heuer logo. Cases are made of polished stainless steel and have diameters of 41 mm. Each version is powered by Calibre 17 self-winding movement whose high-end performances are guaranteed by COSC Chronometric Certificate. The mechanism beats at the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides 42 hours of power reserve.
And finally, a few words about beautiful vintage straps which come with new Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 17 Jack Heuer Edition watches. The CV5110 version features a black leather strap with subtle red details, while the CV5111 version is available with a blue leather strap with the matching blue stitching.
