On 150th Anniversary, the TAG Heuer re-invented its legendary classic model, but with a radical new movement – the Caliber 1887. Stunning in-house manufactured Carrera 1887 chronograph quickly amazed the world and took the prestigious award – The best watch in 2010.
The Year Award at the 2010 Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève is the Swiss watch industry’s most prestigious award competition and thanks to its masterpiece of modern engineering, TAG Heuer was honored for the sixth time in 10 years.
The TAG Heuer Carrera 1887 Chronograph is the 21st century evolution of the 1964 icon that was known as the watch of the champions. The man who stands behind this great model is a company’s honorary Chairman Jack W. Heuer. He designed the first Carrera in 1964 and has overseen every new generation since.
New Mechanism with Classic Elegance and Spirit
The new Carrera 1887 chronograph keeps classic elegance and spirit of the original, but offers the unmatched mechanical sophistication. The 41 mm case is made of polished stainless steel, as well as the round bezel with a tachometer scale. The Carrera 1887 Chronograph is coated on both side of the case with scratch resistant and anti-reflective sapphire crystal and is 100 meter water-proof.
Black or silver dial variation comes with either a black alligator strap or a 5-row polished and fine-brushed stainless steel bracelet. A luminous dial has a clean and simple look and contains three chronograph counters – 12-hour chronograph, located at six o’clock, a 30-minutes counter at 12 o’clock, a second’s sub-dial at nine o’clock. A small date window is also at six o’clock.
The 3rd Millennium Chronograph
But definitely, the Caliber 1887 is a star component of the watch. A new mechanical chronograph movement, makes it be the real 3rd Millennium chronograph.
“We spent 3 years engineering and developing the movement in a “all-under-one-roof” workshop equipped with avant-garde Swiss machines and robots capable of stamping, milling and finishing with to-the-micron precision. This state-of-the-art engineering allows for the production of a true “Manufacture” movement at a very competitive cost – a perfect embodiment of TAG Heuer’s famous “fair cost/fair price” philosophy”, said Jack Heuer at the 2010 Grand Prix de l’Horlogerie de Genève.
A new movement contains 39 jewels. Its size, quality, performance and accuracy guaranty a new shining star in the Carrera watch -line, that was launched in tribute to “Carrera Pan-American Rally” in the 1950’s.
