Based on the design code and technical characteristics of the last year’s redesigned series of the Aquaracer 500m Series, new Tag Heuer’s Aquaracer Calibre 72 Chronographs bring a countdown complication, characteristic for a yachting timepiece. The new model comes in two variations – a standard version, as well as a Limited Edition “Oracle Team USA” model, dedicated to the brand’s partnership with a yachting team which defends the America’s Cup to be held in San Francisco, later this year.

It seems that watch fans have reacted pretty well on the last year’s changes at the interface of Aquaracer watches, since Tag Heuer preserved all new elements. The most striking part of the new design is a ceramic bezel ring that covers a stainless steel case. Inscribed with a minute scale, the bezel can be rotated in one direction for counting of diving time intervals. Beside the fact that it looks great, ceramic is much lighter and harder than stainless steel, thus it guarantees high durability and comfort. The case has the diameter of 43 mm and features nicely intergraded pushers and crown, covered with rubber inserts, as well as the automatic helium valve at its side, at the 10 o’ clock position. It contributes to the superb water-resistance of the watch that goes up to 500 meters (1650 feet).

The black vertical pattern is also a novelty from the last year’s series. It provides a nice visual effect and makes a superb contrast with luminous white applied markers and central hands. At the standard version, Chrono hand at the 30-minute counter and the central chronograph hand are marked in blue. At the Oracle Edition, they are red. The small-second sub-dial is placed at the 3 o’clock position, while the angled date window takes the 12 o’clock position.
Blue color will be seen most often at the countdown counter, located at the 12 o’clock position. The way in which it shows how many minutes remains until the beginning of the yachting race is very interesting and unusual. The counter’s disc is divided into three equal segments: blue, gray and white for the standard Calibre 72 watch, and blue, red and white for the Oracle Edition timepiece. Each of them lasts 5 minutes. Thus, at the start of the countdown, you will see only the blue segment, and then it will appear gray/red segment and finally, the white segment.

The case-back of the standard Calibre 72 (Ref. CAK211A) features the engraving of a winch with rope, which distinguishes this yachting series from the usual diving Aquaracers, each of which comes with an engraved helmet on the case-back.

The Aquaracer 500m Calibre 72 Oracle Team USA (Ref. CAK211B) has the distinctive case-back with the engraved Oracle yacht, an AC72 class catamaran with the height of 72 feet/ 21 meters. The height of the yacht is the inspiration for the name of the self-winding movement that powers the watch. It beats with 28’800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and ensures the power reserve of about 40 hours.

The Oracle Team USA watch is also distinctive by a Team USA logo and by the “Countdown” inscription on the bezel. Both versions are available either with a stainless steel bracelet or with a black rubber strap with the attractive new design.
