Every day more and more watchmakers launch their special edition watches to commemorate the Chinese Lunar Year of the Horse that falls on January 31. I am sure that we will see dozen interpretations on this theme in the coming weeks. The newest horse-themed watch comes from Swatch who has released a new limited edition timepiece named the Year of the Horse watch (ref. SUOZ169). This gorgeous timepiece is one of the nicest, but at the same time, one of the most affordable pieces that celebrates the year of the Horse.

The Year of the Horse Swatch watch is intended for both sexes and it fits equally appropriate on a thin lady’s wrist and on a masculine man’s one. It comes in shades of black and white, showing horses drawn in a way that is meant to resemble traditional Chinese art and calligraphy style. The black and white tones of the watch are complimented with eye catching red hands that improve readability.

This special edition timepiece is teamed with a comfortable, white silicone strap which is also encrusted with black horse images. Swatch chose silicone because it is more comfortable as compared with the plastic which has been used for the wristlets in the last few decades.

This unisex watch is housed in a plastic case measuring 38mm in diameter. The case is shielded with a sapphire crystal and constructed to provide water resistance of up to 30 meters (circa 100 feet). This black-and-white watch is tooled with the precise and reliable Swiss made Quartz movement that provides the usual set of functions (hours, minutes and seconds).

According to the Chinese zodiac, the noble horse represents energy, intelligence and success, therefore, the 2014 Horse year is considered a fortunate year that brings good luck and hope.

The increase in the production of watches inspired by the Chinese signs is caused by wealthy Chinese consumers who spend considerably more money at Chinese New Year than the average Western consumer spends on Christmas.

The Swatch Watch for the Year of the Horse is available from January 9 at U.S. Swatch Corporate owned locations and online at store.swatch.com. The watch is presented in a special horse-themed packaging and it comes with the retail price of $80.00.
