Once again, Ulysse Nardin honors the Chinese New Year with a special edition timepiece. The Chinese New Year, which starts on January 28, 2017, will be the year of the Rooster and the Swiss watchmaker marks the upcoming year with a new addition to the Classico Collection.
Ulysse Nardin Classico Rooster perfectly depicts the rooster’s natural energy with the centuries-old Champlevé method of enameling which transfers the artist’s sketch to the dial. This ancient technique involves creating small compartments on the dial and then filling them by hand with vitreous enamel. All of the colors are obtained by combing metallic oxides at various ratios. The piece is then fired until the enamel melts. The final result is the lively representation of the rooster presented as a 3-dimensional image.
The stunning rendition of the rooster has been designed in-house, at Donzé Cadrans which is a member of the Ulysse Nardin group of companies. The luxury Swiss manufacturer is among a few watchmakers devoted to this centuries old art technique.
The most recent addition to the Ulysse Nardin’a Classico Collection comes in an elegant, 18-karat rose gold case, measuring 40 mm in diameter. The beating heart of this watch is the in-house manufactured UN-815 self-winding movement with its COSC certification. The precise and reliable mechanism can provide enough energy to keep the watch working for no less than 42 hours when fully wound.
The movement’s inner beauty is revealed from the rear via the open case back shielded with sapphire crystal glass. The sapphire crystal also protects the case from the ingress of water pressure. The water resistance is assured down to 50 meters (approximately 165 feet).
Ulysse Nardin Classico Rooster (the referent number 8152-111-2/ROOSTER) is produced in the limited quantity of 88 pieces (number 8 is regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture). Each piece comes attached to a brown leather strap, ending with the matching rose gold tang buckle.
The Classico Rooster will be officially presented at the 2017 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland starting on January 16, 2017.
