At the SIHH 2017, Roger Dubuis presented five new timepieces. The flagship model at the Geneva-based show is the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Double Flying Tourbillon that was developed in partnership with Pirelli, the well-known makers of high performance tires.
Founded in 1872 in Milan, Pirelli has become one of the world’s largest tyre manufacturers. Since 1907, the high-end tire maker has been sponsoring sport competitions. Pirelli is the exclusive supplier of tires for the Formula One Championship, as well as the FIM World Superbike Championship. Now, this high-end tire maker has joined its forces with Roger Dubuis for the new limited series of Excalibur Spider Pirelli timepieces.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli with a double flying tourbillon is a 47mm watch with a skeleton case and movement. The case is made of black DLC titanium combined with vulcanized blue rubber from Pirelli tires used in actual races (blue is the official Pirelli color). The same material is also used for the sporty rubber strap that keeps the watch secured to the wrist.
The rugged case houses a highly skeletonized caliber RD105SQ which consists of 365 components and meets the requirements of the “Poinçon de Geneve” certification. From the rear, a see-through case-back shows the backside of the impeccable caliber.
The watch is equipped with a double flying tourbillon with the carriages placed side by side within the mechanism. Both of its tourbillons also serve as subsidiary seconds registers and are surrounded by seconds tracks whose design is inspired by speedometers. The power reserve indicator resembles racing car fuel gauges.
The Excalibur Spider Pirelli Double Flying Tourbillon is produced in the ultra-limited series of only eight specimens. The retail price is 280,000 Swiss francs which is approximately $278,000. Each piece comes with a complimentary ticket for a two-day VIP program organized by Pirelli at a motorsport race with unabashed all access backstage experiences at F1 races.
