One of the greatest anual horological events is in front of us and high-end watch brands have already started revealing its newest creations. The first one that came up with truly breathtaking novelties is Vacheron Constantin that has just presented two Malte Tourbillon watches – a Collection Excellence Platine timepiece which is a wonderful example of the brand’s most stylish designs, as well as a Malte Tourbillon High Jewellery watch, completely set by precious stones. Both models house high-end in-house movements highlighted by tourbillon cages with the brand’s trademark Maltese cross emblems.
The first limited series from the Collection Excellence Platine was introduced back in 2006. Concluding with stunning Patrimony Traditionnelle 14-Day Tourbillon that was revealed last year, the exclusive collection showed the highest quality in both terms of technology and aesthetics. Of course, the center of the collection is its material, very precious platinum 950, with the purity of 95 percent, which provides superior resistance and toughness.
Just like all previous watches of Collection Excellence Platine, the new Malte Tourbillon timepiece that will be presented at the SIHH 2014 in Geneva, next January, features a case, a dial, buckles and even strap stitching all made of platinum. The shape of 38mm x 48 mm case is stylish and distinctive, showing the breathtaking beauty of polished platinum.
Its tiny bezel moves the main attention to a platinum dial with a subtle grained texture. It features applied Roman numerals and off-centered central hands which are replaced from their usual position to leave a space for a large tourbillon carriage, a masterpiece of the haute horology with a complex construction and the signature Maltese cross emblem, adorning the aperture at the 6 o’clock position. The tourbillon bears a small seconds hand that turns together with the cage once every minute. Finally, between 4 and 5 o’clock positions, you can notice a subtle “Pt 950” mark.
The sapphire crystal case-back reveals a nicely finished Vacheron Caliber 2795 hand-winding movement whose quality is proved by the Hallmark of Geneva. Built of 169 components, it ensures around 45 hours of power-reserve.
Vacheron Constantin Malte Tourbillon “Collection Excellence Platine” is equipped with an elegant black leather strap. It comes in the limited edition of just 50 pieces and its price will go around 170,000 EUR (about $230,000).
The Malte Tourbillon High Jewellery Watch
Although it has the same case shape and size (38mm x 48 diameter), as well as the same tourbillon complication as the Collection Excellence Platine novelty, this Jewellery timepiece to be presented at the Geneva’s Salon International de la Haute Horologerie, is an essentially different model. The huge difference in design and style comes from 208 baguette-cut diamonds that completely cover the case and the bezel, in an invisible setting manner, making the impression that they are an integral part of the construction. Further, 174 baguette-cut diamonds adorn a dial, 20 baguette-cut diamond-set is visible on the back side, while there are four precious stones covering the crown.
Finally, an 18 karat white gold folding clasp is also paved with 12 baguette-cut diamonds. The total weight of this amazing diamond-set is approximately 19.6 carats.
Besides, the case of Malte Tourbillon High Jewellery watch is made of 18 karat white gold, as well as its alluring dial. There are no indicators on the dial, just of-centered hour and minute hands, and a large aperture at its center that even more emphasizes the deepness of the interface. It reveals the tourbillon cage, with the same Maltese cross on its top. The tiny hand which is attached to the cage shows seconds at the diamond-set track that surrounds the mechanical parts.
The brand’s Calibre 2795 hand-winding movement powers the watch, ensuring the high-end performances, proven by the Hallmark of Geneva. The Malte Tourbillon High Jewellery watch is available with a black Mississippiensis alligator leather strap.
