The renowned fashion house that produces some pretty good timepieces has created a stylish watch, highlighted by a stunning flying tourbillon. The watch was inspired by the historic car which is owned by Ralph Lauren himself. This robust, bold looking model from the brand’s Automotive Collection will by officially presented at the upcoming Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie to be held in Geneva, from January 20 to 24.

Ralph Lauren Automotive Flying Torbillon Watch
New Automotive Flying Tourbillon timepiece is definitely one of the brand’s best creations so far. This year, Ralf Lauren introduced a great looking tourbillon model from its Safari range, but the implementation of a flying tourbillon raises the quality to the higher level. Being supported only at the bottom of its carage, this precious complication looks like floating in the air. Revealed through the aperture at the 6 o’clock position, it stands in harmony with the circular pattern at the 12 o’clock position, featuring a large Arabic numeral. The black inner dial which also has a decorative pattern features highly luminescent markers and Arabic numerals, as well as two sword-shaped hands. To pay homage to its favorite car, Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Coupe from 1938, Ralph Laurent created a distinctive outer dial from elm burlwood, which recalls the look of the car’s dashboard. It is secured by four screws, visible at the top and the bottom of the dial.

A round case with the typical design for Ralph Laurent watches is made of stainless steel with black shot-blasting coating. Having 45 mm in diameter, the case is characteristic by a bezel fixed by 6 screws. A stylish black leather strap completes the bold look of the Automotive Flying Tourbillon watch. A sapphire crystal case-back reveals a RL167 self-winding movement, together with its vertical Côtes de Geneve finishing and an off-centre gold-plated micro-rotor.
A couple of months ago, I wrote about Ralph Lauren’s Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé with a coachwork from Jean Bugatti, built in 1938. The reason why I wrote about a car in a watch magazine is because it was the winner of the 2013 Concorso d’Eleganza “Best of Show” trophy and the prize for its owner, Ralph Lauren, was one-of-a-kind GMT timepiece, specially created by A. Lange & Söhne for this prestigious show that celebrates historic cars.

It would be interesting to see which one of these great models, RL Automotive Flying Tourbillon or A. Lange & Söhne masterpiece, the famous fashion design will prefer to have on his wrist while cruising around in his precious car.
