The first of the announced Montblanc models that are to be unveiled in 2014 is Star Twin Moonphase watch. This self-winding mechanical timekeeper from the Star collection is named after the complication it supports – an indication that shows moon phases in both the Northern and the Southern hemisphere. The watch which will be premiered at the upcoming SIHH 2014 event comes in a medium sized steel housing. As the first reports indicate, its price will be set at $5,450.
Moonphase Module by Dubois-Depraz
As it can be guessed from the name of the novel watch, its main distinguishing feature is its display of the phases of the moon which can be seen at the bottom of the dial. During the creation of the mechanism that allows simultaneous indications for both hemispheres, Montblanc has been cooperating with Dubois-Depraz S.A. experts. This Swiss brand from Valée de Joux is specialized exactly in the creation of individual movement modules and as such it collaborates with many top watchmakers. In this instance, Dubois-Depraz has prepared a moon-phase indication which will be exclusively used by the Richemont-owned firm, Montblanc. More specifically, it will be added to Montblanc’s MB 4810/913 automatically-wound caliber. Apart from the function that gave the name to the newcomer, the movement of Star Twin Moonphase timepiece includes three blued hands, as well as a date indication executed via the sub-dial placed in the upper right section of the watch’s face. Moreover, the guilloched silver dial of the novelty includes black stylized Arabic numerals and pointers which are blued just like the central hands.
Montblanc Star Twin Moonphase will be presented in a circular stainless steel housing which has the diameter of 42 mm and the thickness of 12.7 mm. On the both front and the back side of the timepiece whose construction allows it to be water resistant to 30 meters, there are sapphire crystals. Another nice looking detail in the construction of the elegant Montblanc timekeeper is its knurled crown with the brand’s stylized six pointed star emblem. Likewise, it should be said that the watch will be complemented with a black alligator leather strap which locks with a steel buckle. The announced price of the timepiece which is around $5,450, and the watch is scheduled to be premiered at the first major watchmaking event of the year which takes place in Geneva later this January. It may be said that the price of the timepiece is not that steep, especially considering the supported moon phase feature.
