At the upcoming international watch fair SIHH 2013, Roger Dubuis will present several new timepieces. I have already wrote about two Roger Dubuis novelties that we will see this January – a rugged-looking Excalibur 42 Chronograph and a feminine ladies Excalibur 36 in Pink Gold. Today, it is time for two more exceptional timepieces from this manufacturer.
Next year is obviously the year of the Excalibur collection because we will see two more Excalibur models – Excalibur Round Table and Excalibur 42 Tourbillon Skeleton Squelette.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Table Ronde
First is the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Table Ronde. This Excalibur is inspired by the legend of the Round Table of King Arthur and his knights, and I must say, it was just a matter of time before the Roger Dubuis will connect one Excalibur timepiece with Arthurian legend.
The dial of the new Excalibur is created by analogy with the picture of Winchester Round Table. Although the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table is much older, the table itself was commissioned by King Henry VIII in the 16th century (or to be precise, in 1552). Actually, the table upon which this painting is based is said to be from the mid 13th century.
On the enamel disc which shows a round table of King Arthur with the Tudor rose and diverging from the centre contrasting stripes, there are 12 knights as the hour markers. These figurines of knights and their swords are carved in 18-karats pink gold and each of them is slightly different from another.
The watch is housed in a round case crafted from pink gold. The case measures 45mm in diameter, and boasts an exhibition case back.
Excalibur Table Ronde is powered by the in-house manufactured RD822 mechanical movement with functions of hours and minutes via central hands. The watch comes with a black crocodile leather strap fitted with an 18-karat pink gold buckle and it is produced in a limited series of only 28 pieces.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur 42 Tourbillon Squelette
The second Roger Dubius novelty which I will introduce to you is the extraordinary Excalibur 42 Tourbillon Squelette timepiece. This elegant Roger Dubuis is also housed in a round 18-karat pink gold case with the diameter of 42mm. The case features a toothed bezel and the crown encrusted with the brand’s logo which is located at the 3 o’clock position.
The watch is equipped with the in-house made Caliber RD505SQ mechanical movement with tourbillon. The hand-wound movement is visible through the sapphire crystal glass. The watch is accessorized with a black leather strap with an 18-karat pink gold buckle.
This newcomer has no dial. For the reading of time you can use 12 gold screws situated on the black flange which serve as hour-markers. There are hour and minute hands crafted from pink gold, and at the 7 o’clock position, there is a tourbillon which gives a special touch to this watch. More details about this particular model will be available this January during the SIHH 2013.
