With its Slim Classique Collection, Ralph Lauren recalls the timeless elegance of one of its favorite epochs, the Art Deco. Since 2009, the renowned designer house has launched several very interesting models, directly inspired with the 1920s and it seams that the passion for this appealing classic design has not dried out. For the 2012 Geneva’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), Ralph Lauren prepared two new hand-winding models in the Art Deco Slim Classique style, called Ralph Lauren 867.
New models are named after the Ralph Lauren flagship store, at 867 Madison Avenue, in New York that is presented by the company as the “men’s destination for the ultimate in luxury and elegance.” Although they are designed for men, a very small size of their square cases, which are only 27.5mm wide, as well as their universal elegance, make Ralph Lauren 867 timepieces interesting for both, ladies and gentlemen.
The difference between two models is in the level of their luxury. The first one features a bezel with a single row of brilliant-cut diamonds, while the second Ralph Lauren 867 watch comes with two rows of diamonds on a bezel, diamond paved lags and a crown, beautified with a single rose cut diamond. Speaking about quantity, the model RLR0132703 incorporates 96 sparkling stones, while the RLR0132702 model features 201 diamonds in total. Aesthetically, the double rowed bezel looks like it is in greater harmony with other elements and design concept. However, it has always been a question of a personal taste.
Squares in Square
Square is the main designer’s motif of a silvery opaline dial that features shiny black, Breguet-style hour and minute hands, as well as mixed Roman and Arabic numerals, also in black color. It is covered with a flat sapphire crystal, with external and internal colorless anti-reflective treatment.
Very small, 18 karat white gold cases of the Slim Classique RL 867 watches are incredibly thick (5.75 mm). They are nicely polished to match glamorous diamond shine. Both models are available with the same black alligator straps, with 18 karat white gold pin buckles.
The Slim Classique Collection is famous by ultra-thick mechanisms. This time, it is a 2.1 mm thick Caliber RL430 hand-winding movement, made by Piaget which is the world’s top manufacturer of extra-slim mechanical movements. Caliber RL430 is built of 131 parts. It oscillates at the frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and provides around 40 hours of power-reserve.
