Piaget Altiplano Skeleton Automatic Watch will be officially presented in Geneva next January, at the prestigious Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). With this great haute horology piece that keeps two records as the world’s thinnest automatic skeleton watch, with the world’s thinnest self-winding skeleton movement, Piaget has the guaranteed place among the biggest stars of the upcoming event.
Ultra-thin Piaget Altiplano watches are presented for the first time in 2010. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the brand’s iconic Calibre 12P, just 2.3 millimeters thick, the slimmest self-winding movement in the world, the renowned watch manufacturer launched 43 mm watches with either Calibre 1200P (hours and minutes) or Calibre 1208P (hours, minutes and small seconds), the new world’s thinnest mechanical movements. Interesting Piaget’s motto: “Always do better than necessary”, maybe is the best way to explain the brand’s need for this amazing achievement.
Now, Piaget is preparing for the launch of the 2012 Piaget Altiplano Skeleton Automatic watch edition, special by a 38mm white gold case (5.34mm thick) and an in-house Calibre 1200S automatic skeleton movement (2.35mm thick). Almost invisible from sides, this watch presents the exceptional work of best craftsmen who bring each single detail to perfection, both technically and aesthetically. The smaller case, comparing to previous models, contributes to higher elegance of the watch, nicely matching a stylish black leather strap.
The beautiful mix of brushed and polished surfaces on a white god bezel provides a true visual delight in combination with the decorated parts of the skeletonized mechanism, its off-centered, 950 platinum micro rotor and rhodium-plated hour and minutes hands. Calibre 1200 S oscillates at the frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides around 44 hours of power-reserve. The design of its balance-bridge is harmonious and symmetrical, while its hour-wheel bridge has an amazing thickness of 0.11 mm.
Piaget was one of five brands that participated at the very first Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, in Geneve. Next year, 22nd SIHH will host 19 high end watch brands that will present the latest results of their work. The SIHH 2012 will be opened from Monday, January 16 to Friday, January 20.
It is truly a miracle to make such a thin skeleton automatic model. The watch really looks amazing! Piaget Altiplano skeleton automatic is more elegant than Cartier cadran lové tourbillon watch. This brand reached the top of its career…I am delighted by this invention.
Watts, you are right for all. This miracle has unique features and it is made from exceptional materials. It deserves all the praise.
This model is indeed a great success but I prefer SIHH 2012 Preview – Cartier Cadran Lové Tourbillon Watch because it has more interesting design of its dial – this amazing design of the dial can not be made in a thin version.
