Inspiration for its latest Historic timepiece, Panerai found in the rare model from the 1940’s, which interesting shape characterized the stage in the transformation from the Radiomir cushion case to the Luminor case. Thus, Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days – 47mm (PAM00422) watch should be pretty important timepiece for the collectors and all the fans of the Panerai’s great heritage.
Panerai Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days – 47mm (PAM00422) watch is presently exhibited at the “O’Clock – time design, design time” exhibition that takes place in Milan, from October 11, 2011 to January 8, 2012. This beautiful vintage timepiece will be officially presented with other brand’s novelties at the upcoming SIHH 2012 watch show, in Geneva. Although it is exactly what we have expected from Panerai, many passionate lovers of the vintage models are delighted to see another successful reinterpretation of the past that comes in the Limited Edition of 2000 pieces.
This year (2011), Panerai presented the new in-house P.3000 hand-winding movement, inside the Luminor 1950 3 Days watch (PAM 372). For the next year, it prepared Panerai P.3001 hand-winding mechanism that beside the fact that it can work 72 hours with one winding, incorporates small seconds, displayed at the 9 o’clock position, a power-reserve indicator on the back and a seconds reset function.
This superb mechanism comprises 21 jewels and two spring barrels connected in series that provide longer energy supply. A balance wheel is unusually large and oscillates at the frequency of, 21,600 alternations per hour (3 Hz). It is free-sprung and comes with the protection of an Incabloc® anti-shock device. Nicely brush-finished bridges and smoothed and polished angles are partly visible through a transparent part of the case-back.
The case of the Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days – 47mm is crafted in polished stainless steel and has a robust size of 47 mm in diameter. It incorporates a vintage lever device that protects a brushed steel crown. An elegant natural leather strap, without any additional lacquer finishing, closed with the classic Panerai brushed-steel buckle perfectly matches the vintage style of the watch.
The classic sandwich-style, black dial provides the impression of depth, while the Panerai’s trademark – large Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions, as well as hour markers, covered with Super-LumiNova® – makes the watch highly legible. The dial is protected with a 3mm thick Plexiglas crystal glass.
When you see this watch for the first time, I can bet that this beautiful combination of a black dial and an elegant brown leather strap leaves the strong impression to you. I like this watch very much, especially the combination which I described in the previous sentence.
I like the design of Panerai watches. Although I must agree with Jorge`s comment about the combination of a brown leather strap and a black dial, I think that the combination of a black dial and stainless steel will look much better than the previous combination. I have Panerai Radiomir Chronograph, but I want this one and I will have it very soon I hope.
Let`s be honest, this watch is definitely the best from Panerai Historic collection. I like it very much, but I don`t know the price of this glorious watch. If anyone knows something about the price, please leave a comment.
Does anyone heard anything about: why the Historic Model Luminor Marina 1950 (PAM00422) has 3-days power reserve, when it’s prototype in 1950 had Angelus hand-wound mechanical movement with 8-days power reserve?
