Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive Watch

The Kinetic Direct Drive beats inside this boldly looking sport watch. The effect is amazing – with this Seiko timepiece, you will get great precision and accuracy, as long as it resaves energy from one of two sources – the body motion or the winding crown. At least one of six different design variations of the Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive should satisfy even the most demanding among sport watch lovers.

Along with the Yachting timer, these hi-quality sport watches are the heart of the Velatura Collection. Since they are specially created for sailors, solid water resistance, tough construction and great precision are features that are inevitable.

However, the central part of all watches that are moved by some of Seiko’s revolutionary technologies, is inside the case. As its name implies, this Velatura timepiece is powered by the Kinetic Direct Drive movement. As we mentioned before, the Kinetic technology generates energy from the motion of a body and transforms it into electrical power that powers a battery. The best combination of quartz and mechanical mechanisms provides a permanent source of energy and the great precision of quartz movements (1 +/- second per day).

The Kinetic Direct Drive technology went one step forward. Along with a body movement, the watch gets energy by winding a crown manually. Additionally, there is a direct drive indicator that displays the energy storage, but also provides an interesting interaction between the watch and a wearer, by showing the level of added energy in the moment of winding.

Great Power Reserve

The Caliber 5D44 Kinetic Direct Drive movement has a maximum power-reserve to 1 month, in which case the power indicator points on “M”. “W” is a sign for a week charge, “D” is for a day charge. The Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive also features a retrograde day indicator and a date window at the 6 o’clock position. Luminous round hour markers and Arabic numerals that indicate every fifth minute, as well as nicely shaped hands make the watch dial very readable.

This Seiko timepiece has a stainless steel case with 43.5 mm in diameter and 13 mm tick. It incorporates a bezel, coated with titanium carbon nitride. There is a choice among a rubber or leather strap and a stainless steel bracelet. The Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive has a screw down caseback and a solid water-resistance up to 100 meters (330 feet).

As I mentioned before, there are six variations of these men’s watches. I strongly recommend the latest model (SRH013P1) which combines a black case and a black textured dial, with the matching rubber strap, while its power indicator comes in blue, yellow and white colors. If you prefer another color, Seiko also offers blue and white dials.

  1. Luis Peterson December 31, 2011

Seiko Velatura Kinetic Direct Drive Watch SRH003P1 with blue dial looks spacious and impressive. It has a very interesting dial with many unusual details, but the model SRH005P1 has a nicer bracelet.

  2. Bryan Cox December 31, 2011

The model SRH003P1 has an amazing effect because of the dial, as Luis said. Kinetic watches have a batteries that are charged when you move your hands (rotor). These watches are very precise.

  3. Tony James December 31, 2011

It is a useful and interesting way to charge the battery. You will always be sure that the watch is accurate and precise.
