Seiko GMT Spring Drive Watch

The Spring Drive is the most advanced Seiko’s technology, as well as the name of the brand’s renowned watch collection. Like every other model in the collection, Seiko GMT Spring Drive watches possess hi-tech mechanical movements that are synonyms for accuracy and durability.

Seiko GMT Spring Drive WatchIf you cannot see why the Spring Drive watch costs more than other quality Seiko’s mechanical watches, you should consider that the Japanese watchmakers have been working on it for about two decades. Their achievement was a real revolution in watchmaking industry, since the new movement brought the accuracy, never seen before in the world of mechanical watches. As a matter of fact, before the Spring Drive appeared, a great precision of 1 +/- second per day had been an exclusive advantage of quartz movements.

The secret of this remarkable precision is in the Tri-Synchro Regulator which replaces the escapement (from traditional mechanical movements). This regulator, powered by the main spring, manages the speed of the glide wheel and the watch hands. This provides superb accuracy, but also reduces the power loss, which leads to another direct benefit of this type of movement – a great power reserve of 72 hours (the contribution of a very efficient winding system is also important).

Seiko GMT Spring Drive watch for men is powered by the Spring Drive Caliber 5R66 automatic movement. It comprises 30 jewels and works 3 days, when it is not worn. Smooth movements of the Spring Drive are reflected by the motion of the central seconds hand. This unique pleasure is exclusively reserved for the owners of Seiko watches. The seconds hand is in a permanent motion, without stop and tick effects, showing the real nature of time.

24 Hour Indicator

When we are speaking about Seiko timepieces, the question about the design, most probably comes after the elaboration of theirs inner qualities. This does not mean that the Japanese watchmakers overlook this important segment. On the contrary, the best skilled craftsmen work on the design, trying to be unpretentious and to respect traditional precision and an artistic form, at the same time.

Seiko GMT Spring Drive Watch SNR009Seiko GMT Spring Drive watches come in two variations – with a white dial (model SNR007) and with a black dial (model SNR009). They are made of stainless steel, with a mid-size case of 43 mm. The case has wonderful finishes and extraordinary contrasts between polished and brushed surfaces, which implies to the best work of art. The special way of polishing and the sharp shapes are taken from the Seiko Ananta Collection.

Seiko GMT Spring Drive Watch SNR007This men’s watch from Spring Drive collection has a forth central hand – 24-hour indicator, implemented to track time in the second time zone. The simply designed watch dial also features an over-sized power-reserve indicator and a date window.  Seiko GMT Spring Drive timepiece is covered with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, has a transparent case back and comes with an elegant bracelet, made of high intensity titanium.

This is a watch with a very interesting dial. I have noticed that the dial is the best part of a watch. Everything else is nothing special. Although it has nice features, I like watches which look nice and which have nice design. That is the most important thing of the watch, in my opinion.

With a power reserve of 71 hours, this watch is the first on my top list of watches and it is a prime candidate to be in my collection. I will buy a watch with a white dial, it looks better than the other one. It looks nice, not too aggressive and very stylish.

Honestly, I don`t like this watch at all. I`m a sport type of person and I like and wear those kinds of watches, so this one isn`t the watch I need. It`s nice, but for a serious gentleman, not for a young guy like me.
