Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar Watch

Seiko brought together renowned Kinetic technology and the classic design of its leading dress watch collection, to get the Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar watch for men. The Kinetic Perpetual movement has the precision of quartz mechanisms, functionality of mechanical perpetual calendar watches and inexhaustible source of energy from the body motion.

Seiko Premier SNP036P1 WatchThe Seiko Men’s Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar watch possesses the classic elegance, adapted to express the nature of modern, highly advanced brand’s technology. Work on the perfect design that would follow hi-end performances, has not been an easy task for the Japanese watchmakers. Kinetic mechanisms are maybe closer to some of Seiko’s sports watch collections – Arctura, Sportura or Velatura, but this has not stopped Seiko to incorporate this amazing technology into the stylish Premier watch line.

The Kinetic Perpetual Calendar movement was introduced for the first time at Baselworld 2005 and it immediately set the highest standard for Perpetual Calendar timepieces. Like every other Kinetic caliber, it provides great accuracy and longevity, thanks to the mechanism which converts kinetic energy from the body movement, to the electrical power that supplies a quartz battery. This means that each motion of a wrist will add a certain amount of energy into the storage unit. With the full charge, this reservoir stores the energy for an amazing 4 years autonomy, when a watch is not worn.

Power Save Mode and Auto-Relay Function

Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar WatchThis is possible, thanks to the Power save mode and Auto-relay function. In order to save energy, the first function automatically stops hands and puts the watch into the “sleep” mode, about 24 hours after it is used for the last time. The auto-relay function provides that watch continues to track the accurate time and the correct date, month and year, even in the sleep mode. Finally, when you activate the watch, with just a few shakes, the hands automatically reset to the correct time and its perpetual calendar displays the exact date.

This calendar is yet another super-quality of the Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar watch. It is correct until February 28, 2100 and functions on principles of the best classic mechanical calendars. In order to incorporate this feature in the Kinetic mechanism, Seiko’s engineers used 232 parts and the smallest ultra-sonic motor in the World (0.4 mm thick). This motor is the energy supplier for mechanical gear trains that automatically adjust 101 parts of the perpetual calendar (including odd and even months and February of leap years).

Seiko Watches in 10 Variations

There are 10 variations of the Seiko Premier Kinetic Perpetual Calendar watch. Differences are based only on a color and a strap material. All other features are the same. The watch case is made of stainless steel, with the combination of satin and polished finishes. It is 40 mm wide and 12 mm tick.

The watch is covered with a sapphire crystal and has solid resistance to water pressure, up to 100 meters. It comes either with a stainless steel bracelet or with a leather strap. A nicely designed watch dial is either black or silver, or both, depending on its contrast with the sub-dials.

The dial features a dual date window, a 24 hour sub-dial and finally, an over-sized sub-dial which displays the correct month and year, as well as the energy level.

I like watches which have a perpetual calendar. They are really interesting. Although I never had a Seiko, I heard only positive comments and experiences of other people. If somebody can tell me something more about their mechanism and system, I will appreciate it. Thanks.

  2. Zack Tyson March 13, 2012

I don`t know anything about the mechanism, but I have some friends who are very satisfied with their Seiko watches. I intend to buy a Seiko watch with Barcelona flag inside the dial because I`m a huge fan of FC Barcelona

  3. Rodrigo Tello March 13, 2012

I am the proud owner of this watch. I bought it 4 months ago and I`m still in love with it. Every day, when I wake up, I put my Seiko on my wrist and it gives me a good feeling and I go outside and do something to make that day interesting and funny. And I feel happy because of that.

  4. Evan Simon June 8, 2012

There are a lot of people who wouldn`t agree with my opinion that the most important things on the watch are its features and the quality of the mechanism. Trust me, I have a very ugly watch, Casio, but it has incredible functions. Last month, I went sailing with my friend, I had my Casio and he had a Tissot. We compared those two watches and we discovered that my watch has a lot better functions, but that his watch looks like this Seiko watch – extraordinary. So my advice to all potential buyers is, don`t buy this kind of beautiful watch, it doesn’t have any special functions except maybe the perpetual calendar. There are a lot more useful watches made by Casio or Sector, and you should take a look at them.

  5. Homer Espinoza June 8, 2012

Excuse me, Evan, but I don`t agree with you that a perpetual calendar isn`t a useful addition. Why do you think like that?! I like that function a lot, and I can tell you that I will buy this model very soon. I don`t go sailing like you and your friend and I don`t need features like high water resistance, a depth meter, a compass or something like that. I just want a nice, quality and interesting watch, like this one. This is the perfect choice for me and any normal guy on this planet.

  6. Mark Bowel June 8, 2012

I agree with Homer. I would never wear a Casio watch. Can you imagine a big, robust and ugly watch on your wrist. And it`s made from resin. Come on, I would probably feel like I`m in a primary school again. This watch is very nice and it should be, as Homer said, a nice choice for any normal guy.

  7. Toby Jensen August 1, 2012

This watch has an excellent design. I really can´t remember seeing a similar watch in recent time. Honestly, I don´t have any experience with Seiko watches, but I heard many good comments about that brand. They have nice watches which aren´t so expensive.

  8. Abel Burton August 1, 2012

I´m a fan of watches with extra large cases. Unfortunately, this watch doesn’t have such a big case, but never mind. It still looks great. I know that many of you will think for a second that I´m crazy, but that isn´t the truth. I am 206 cm tall, and my wrist is really huge, so normaly I need a watch with a large case. As I said, too bad for this watch, I would like to wear it, but that´s impossible.

  9. Stanley Horton August 1, 2012

I totally understand you, Abel. My brother has the same problem as you. He´s also a tall guy. I know that he has found some good watches for tall guys in Tag Heuer collections. You should take a look at those collections and maybe you´ll find something interesting for yourself. I wish you all the best in that quest.
