The famous Japanese watchmaker announced an interesting presentation of its numerous novelties at the upcoming Baselworld 2013 watch show. Until now, Seiko revealed to us only two new models from its renowned Premier Collection which, being subtly re-designed, feature more sleek cases and deeper dials with nice 3-D effects. Besides the exceptional design that brings together classic and contemporary look, these novelties (SRN037 and SRG009) feature new advanced versions of the brand’s signature Kinetic movement which provide an extraordinary experience that perfectly corresponds to the slogan of the line – You are the Power.
You can find more information about the Kinetic movement on our page dedicated to innovative mechanisms. In brief, it is Seiko’s patent, a stunning mechanism that transforms the energy from the wearer’s motion into the electrical energy that powers a quartz movement. Thus, the Kinetic movement inherited the best of both worlds; the accuracy of quartz movements and the sophisticated system of self-winding mechanisms.
The Japanese watchmaker announced a number of Premier Kinetic models to be officially presented in Basel, during the last week of April. Two of them are specially accented. The first one is an advanced 5M84 Caliber that powers the SRN037 Premier Kinetic Day/Date watch. Advancements of the mechanism led to more efficient power-reserve that allows the watch to work accurately up to 6 months if it is unworn. Even after that period, it will start beating immediately after just a few shakes. Along with basic functions, this mechanism offers a date indicator, as well as a retrograde day indicator.

The stainless steel case of this great looking timepiece has the diameter of 41.5 mm and the thickness of 12.1 mm. It is attached to an elegant bracelet in the matching material which incorporates a three-fold clasp with a push button release. Finally, there is a nicely-designed silver dial with an interesting multi-level construction. At the outer rim, there are inscribed Roman numerals, separated from the applied hour markers with the minute track. Finally, the central circle is reserved for hands and an arc that marks the retrograde day indicator. The case is covered with sapphire crystal on both sides and has the water-resistance of 100 meters (330 feet). The recommended retail price is 520 euros which is more than a good price for such a quality watch.
The second novelty is a Premier Kinetic Direct Drive watch (SRG009) that will be available worldwide in autumn this year. It also incorporates the great technology that allows the wearer to power the watch by motion. However, its Caliber 5D22 Kinetic Direct Drive movement can also be powered by winding a crown. In that case, the power reserve indicator that is located on the dial starts showing a real-time transfer of the energy with each turn of the crown, providing a pretty cool interaction between the wearer and the watch.

According to the picture, a stainless steel case with the diameter of 41.5 mm is coated with black PVD. It perfectly matches a black interface of the watch. The design concept of a modern and elegant dial is the same like the one of the previously reviewed model, except the fact that the power-reserve indicator replaces the retrograde day indicator, although not at the same position. The watch comes with a stainless steel bracelet, incorporating a three-fold clasp with a push button release. It is covered with sapphire crystal on the dial side and provides water-resistance up to 100 meters. A recommended price for this high-quality timepiece is 600 euros.
