Presented at Baselworld 2010, this superb watch has been fulfilling all that was necessary to make a global success. As a part of the Ananta Collection, it possesses a beautiful artistic form, based on the ancient Japanese craftsmanship. By housing the best Seiko’s mechanism, the amazing Spring Drive (also the most accurate mechanical movement in the world), this timepiece amazed all watch aficionados. Finally, the Seiko Ananta Spring Drive features a grand complication – the moon phase indicator.
With just one timepiece, the Japanese watchmakers showed the world their fantastic creativity, artistry, craftsmanship and the highest engineering skills. Besides, the Seiko Ananta Spring Drive Moon Phase is a compact watch without unnecessary details.
Its design, based on precision, sharpness and parabolic bends is inspired by the long tradition of sword-making. Each case of Ananta watches has an amazingly flat surface. This is the result of a special process of hand ‘blade’ polishing, in three stages. Moreover, the side of the case possesses the parabolic curve of Katana swords. The case of the Seiko Ananta Spring Drive Moon Phase is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 46 mm.
The Ananta’s body is crafted of two parts – the inner case that serves as the holder of the movement, and the outer one that protects the watch from shocks. It also incorporates integral lugs which link the body to an amazingly polished stainless steel bracelet. The sharp curves and edges of luminous hour markers and hands also reflect the unbroken quality of Katana and provide superb legibility.
Seiko Caliber 5R67 Spring Drive
This superb watch is powered by the Seiko Caliber 5R67 Spring Drive movement. The Japanese watchmakers had been working on the Spring Drive movement for about two decades until they constructed a movement with a fantastic accuracy, never seen before in the world of mechanical timepieces. The Spring Drive beats with a great precision of 1 +/- second per day, which, before it appeared, had been an exclusive advantage of quartz movements.
The secret of this remarkable precision is in the Tri-Synchro Regulator which replaces the escapement (from traditional mechanical movements). This regulator, powered by the main spring, manages the speed of the glide wheel and the watch hands. This provides superb accuracy, but also reduces the power loss, which leads to another direct benefit of this type of movement – a great power reserve of 72 hours (the contribution of a very efficient winding system is also important). The Seiko Caliber 5R67 has 30 jewels and 288 parts which are visible through a sapphire crystal case back.
The central part of this Seiko watch is a dial, with a beautifully designed moon phase indicator. It features a silver rotating disc with a black moon, which indicates the exact phase of the moon. Covered with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the watch dial also features a power-reserve indicator that goes counter clockwise.
Seiko Ananta Spring Drive Moon Phase timepieces are water-resistant up to 100 meters (330 feet). They are available for around 4,000 dollars.
I have never before had the opportunity to see a watch with a Moon Phase indicator. It looks very cool. The watch has very nice style and design. I like it very much. I think I will go out there and buy this beautiful watch.
I honestly think that a Moon Phase indicator isn`t so special. I don`t need that on my watch and I know that there are many people who share my opinion. Moon Phase indicator only serves to increase the price of the watch.
I like the power reserve of 72 hours on this watch.
I agree with you Jack. I prefer chronograph to a Moon Phase indicator or something like that.
Let`s take this watch for example, it has a Moon Phase indicator. Instead of that, it would be much better if it had a chronograph or greater water resistance.
I saw many “Moon phase” watches and this is definitely the worst ever! The design of the dial isn`t so good ant that`s the main problem. Although Seiko has quality watches, and this one is certainly a quality watch, the designs of their watches are quite bad.
Leslie, what are you expecting from a Seiko watch?! Seiko isn`t that good company as you say. The watch is regular, it doesn`t have any special functions and the design is usual. Moon phase indicator isn`t such a great addition.
I just wanted to say that there are much better watches with Moon phase indicators than this Seiko. I didn`t say that Seiko is the best and that it has the best watches of all brands.
