While its authentic design follows the iconic code of the brand’s rare models from the late 1930s, an exclusive Special Edition of Radiomir 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso watch makes a strong distinction from other Radiomir models by showing a bluish dial and a matching leather strap, combined with a stylish red gold body. For all aficionados in mechanical movement, the renowned watchmaker revealed an especially complex version of the first in-house movement made in the Officine Panerai Manufacture at Neuchâtel, through the transparent case-back.
This great looking watch and my favorite one in the brand’s 2013 edition features the iconic cushion case, with the brilliantly polished surface. This is a very robust case, with the diameter of 45 mm and a screw down crown with an interesting vintage shape. The 18 karat red gold case also features Panerai’s signature removable wire loop strap attachments which hold the elegant leather strap, designed to match a beautiful blue shade of the dial with a satiné soleil finish.
Its minimalist design leaves a very strong impression, while all indicators that it displays provide high-end readability. Highly legible, simple linear and dot hour markers surround the central part that features the second time zone and small seconds sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position. At the 3 o’clock position, there is a date window, while the linear power-reserve indicator takes the 6 o’clock position. The GMT function is also provided by the central, arrow shaped hand. The dial is protected with anti-reflective sapphire crystal, as well as the case-back that opens a view at the P.2002/10 calibre hand-winding mechanism.
Built of 246 components, this complex mechanism incorporates three barrels mounted in series, which ensures a stunning power-reserve of up to 8 days. It is beautifully decorated and executed by hand, including finely skeletonized bridges and barrels, as well as a wheelwork that matches the color of the case. Brushed bridges with gold-colored engraving are finished with chamfering, while the plate is finished with a circular graining.
Panerai Radiomir 8 Days GMT Oro Rosso PAM538 watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters, which means that this beautiful timepiece is not created for diving operation like majority of watches from Radiomir range.
