For this year’s Only Watch charity auction Louis Vuitton has prepared the most colorful timepiece that will be auctioned this November in Geneve. Louis Vuitton participates in this charity event for the 5th time and this unique wristwatch is based on the Escale Worldtime model.
The new Escale Worldtime “The World is a Dancefloor” is designed in collaboration with Paul Pettavino, the son of Only Watch’s founder Luc Pettavino. The 19 year old Paul Pettavino suggested a timepiece with a chequered dance floor motif.
The first thing that catches attention is the watch’s colorful and, I must notice, almost psychedelic dial that resembles a disco dancefloor. The phrase “The world is a dancefloor” perfectly matches with the design and the function of the new Louis Vuitton timepiece. Each segment of the dial has been hand-painted, including the two discs that indicate hours and minutes.
Louis Vuitton Escale Worldtime shows the world time without using a single hand. Time in all 24 time zones is shown via three different hand-painted mobile discs –hour disc, minute disc and city disc.
This one-of-a-kind watch is housed in an 18-karat white gold case which measures 41mm in diameter. All watch functions are controlled via the crown, because of the lack of buttons on the case.
The white gold case houses Louis Vuitton’s caliber LV 106 self-winding movement with a mystery rotor which is visible on the case back of the watch. The impeccable automatic movement is developed and assembled by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton.
From the rear, the rim of the rotor spins around the silkscreened “LV” logo on the sapphire crystal, with no apparent connection to the movement, thus making it mysterious. The rim of the back is engraved with “Only Watch 2015″ and “No. 1/1″, further emphasizing the uniqueness of the watch.
The watch is constructed to resist water pressure up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). The new Louis Vuitton’s timepiece is attached to a blue alligator leather strap which gives the final colorful touch with yellow calfskin lining and orange stitching.
Louis Vuitton Escale Worldtime for Only Watch 2015 is housed into one of Vuitton’s iconic trunks in graphite Damier canvas with a hand-painted dance floor pattern on its lid.
The watch will be auctioned at the Only Watch charity event which will be held in Geneva on November 7, 2015. All the proceeds from the auction will go for the research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
