Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer Manufacture specially created for Only Watch 2013 brings together a set of exclusive skills cultivated by the famous Swiss watch manufacturer. The latest marine chronograph by Ulysse Nardin is tooled with the in-house made caliber UN-118 mechanical movement.
The self-winding movement built on 50 jewels provides approximately 60 hours of power reserve and it is confirmed by the COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse Chronomètres). The anchor escapement of the movement is produced by using DiamonSil, the brand’s revolutionary alliance of diamond and silicon, and a furthering of its pioneering collaboration with Sigatec.
This caliber shows the synergies between the engraving technologies of silicon and Diamond Coated Silicon and it is the very first representative of a new family of movements that will house this anchor escapement in DiamonSil, with the brand’s own oscillator and its patented hairspring. The mechanism also features Ulysse Nardin’s “quick setting” which allows forward and backward date adjustments.
This unique piece is housed in a classic looking case crafted from 18-karat rose gold. The round case measures 43mm in diameter and it features engraving 1/1 on the side plate. On the right side of the case there is a screw down security crown. The case is protected on both sides with anti-reflective sapphire crystals and it has a see through case back. The water resistance is assured down to 100 meters (about 330 feet).
The one-of-a-kind Marine Chronometer Manufacture for Only Watch 2013 boasts the handcrafted Grand Feu enamel dial produced by the world-recognized enamel-dial specialist, Donzé Cadrans, who is a member of the Ulysse Nardin group of companies. The mastery of enameling depends on both the sensitivity of the artist and its daily practice. It is a centuries-old and very complex decorative technique.
The snow white dial comprises contrasting black Roman numerals as hour markers and bold accents of cherry red. There is also a 60-hour power reserve display, an oversized small seconds indicator and a date register at the 6 o’clock position. In the lower counter there is also the inscription ONLY WATCH in red. For the wristlet, Ulysse Nardin has chosen a black leather strap which ends with an 18-karat rose gold folding buckle.
Ulysse Nardin has been crafting marine chronometers since the late 19th century during the spark of the international trade. Therefore, Marine Chronometer Manufacture with the referent number 1186-126/OW was the obvious choice for this year’s charity auction which will be held on September 28 in Monaco.
