By creating a remarkable one-of-a-kind chronograph watch, Breguet joined the group of high-end watchmakers that participate at the fifth Only Watch charity auction. While all proceeds from its sale will benefit the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the lucky buyer will have a chance to enjoy this wonderful union of the impeccable style, classic elegance, luxury and a superior mechanism. Breguet’s Classique Chronograph Openworked 5284 watch revives the refined aesthetics of the brand’s very first chronographs, while offering a clear look at the brand’s unique design solution for the famous column wheel chronograph mechanism.
Proudly exhibited in the center of a partly skeletonized dial, there is a superb Calibre 533.2 SQ hand-winding movement (originally known as the Callibre 2310). Created as Calibre CH 27 by Albert Piguet at the Lémania workshops, back in the 1940s, it has been used by a number of high-end watchmakers, evolving into Calibre 2310. The latest reinterpretation of this mechanism comes decorated with excellent hand engraving on its bridges and gears, which gives the watch a distinctive artistic look. It oscillates at the low frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz) and ensures the power-reserve of up to 48 hours.
The Classique Chronograph Openworked 5284 watch features a perfectly round 42.5 mm case, crafted in 18 karat yellow gold. Its elegantly curved bezel is nicely polished; it matches two prominent chronograph pushersas well as the crown in the middle, and is decorated with the brand’s stylish logo. The side of the case is fluted for a strong visual effect. The inevitable component of Breguet’s classic timepieces is an elegant brown alligator strap with a buckle in 18 karat yellow gold.
The classic elegant silver color dial features an outer ring with black Roman numerals. It is subtly inclined to the center that makes the impression of deepness. The central bridge that goes over the open-worked sapphire crystal dial bears two sub-dials, the one at the 9 o’clock position that counts small-seconds and the other at the 3 o’clock for the 30-minute chronograph measuring. Beautiful old-fashion hour and minute hands, as well as the central chronograph hand in red round the alluring design of the watch interface. For another perspective of the hand-finished mechanism, there is a sapphire crystal case back.
