The Rock of Monaco Integrated Into a Unique Watch – Romaine Jerome Rock the Rock DNA Watch

Unlike some other watches in the Only Watch 2011 charity auction, inspired by the famous Rock of Monaco (and they also depict it, like the watch by Blancpain), the amazing product from a Swiss luxury watch-maker, Romain Jerome, is actually built from it.  The completely unusual Rock the Rock DNA Watch has a unique dial, made from the carved piece of limestone, extracted from the western cliff of the Rock of Monaco.

Romaine Jerome Rock the Rock DNA WatchWith the imaginative approach and the inclusion of the rock on which was the Principality built on, Romain Jerome has created a product that is not only exclusive, but also directly related to the location of the Only Watch auction. The dial of the timepiece by RJ also includes a small seconds sub dial which sits at the nine o’clock position (constructed of the same material).

Besides, the dial sports two red lines (one is horizontal and the other is vertical) that symbolize the latitude and longitude of Monaco, and the precise location from where the rock was taken. These lines cross through the sub dial and remain unbroken only for a brief period (while it displays 0, 15, 30 and 45 seconds). According to the manufacturer of this timepiece, Romain Jerome, the rotation symbolizes the movements of the earth’s crust, as well as the “humankind’s difficulties in mastering its movements”. The hands of the watch are black and hollow, with luminous arrow-shaped tips.

PVD-Coated Steel, Ceramic and Alcantara

The unusual Rock the Rock wristwatch is housed into a recognizable RJ’s DNA case, constructed of black PVD-coated steel and with the diameter of 46 mm. The crown of the timepiece is PVD-treated steel with black rubber, while the stationary bezel is constructed of black ceramic.

Romaine Jerome Rock the Rock DNA WatchThe inside of the DNA-styled case holds the automatic mechanical C22RJ51 movement with 23 jewels. The self-winding movement has the frequency of 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 42 hours. Romain Jerome Rock the Rock DNA Watch also includes water resistance to 30 meters (99 feet).

As for the bracelet, Romain Jerome has chosen a black rolled-edge alcantara strap (composite material that consists of 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane, which enables increased resilience). The black strap sports a red seam that continues the line of the dial, which represents the longitude of Monaco. The strap fastens with a folding clasp that is, just like the case, constructed of black PVD-coated steel.
