Sotheby’s Hong Kong Important Watches Spring Sale 2011, held at April the 7th, achieved the record for the “Various Owner sale of Important Watches” category, with an astonishing total of $9,370,032 and thus eclipsed two excellent results for the past two seasons. This amazing result exceeded the sell-through rate of 96.8% by lot and 99.1% by value.
The timepieces that topped the sale were the rare watches by Patek Philippe. A Patek Philippe Platinum Minute Repeating Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon Wristwatch with Retrograde Date and Moon-Phases was sold for $656,410.
The second timepiece from the same manufacturer, a Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Open-Faced Minute Repeating Perpetual Calendar Keyless Chronometre watch with moon-phases, 24 hour indiction and earnshaw-type spring detent escapement also fetched an astounding price of $210,256.
Apart from great results for Patek Philippe watches, an Audemars Piguet, Pink Gold Minute Repeating Tourbillon Chronograph with Register was sold for $279,487. That was nearly three times more than its low estimate. Another remarkable result is $164,103, paid for the F.P. Journe Limited Edition Titanium And Pink Gold Tourbillon Dead Beat Seconds wristwatch with power reserve indication.
