Ulysse Nardin reinvented the legendary Freak, taking its revolutionary technology on the next level of quality. With Freak Diavolo Only Watch, a renowned Swiss watchmaker demonstrates amazing improvements in materials, design and technology.

Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo Only Watch
With its breakthrough technology and a minimalist design of its tourbillon carrousel that did not have a conventional dial, hands and crown, the famous Freak from 2001 sets new standards for entire watchmaking industry. Being the first watch with silicium escapement wheels, it really made a difference in the haute horology.
Ten years later, in order to benefit a research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Ulysse Nardin created the upgraded version of the legend, called Freak Diavolo Only Watch. This single piece of art that will be auctioned in Monaco, on September 22, comes with more silicium components and an advanced tourbillon mechanism (like its siblings – Freak DIAMonSIL®, Freak Diamond Heart and Freak Blue Phantom). The most delicate part of the timepiece is crafted in silicium. It is used in the patented hairspring (Si 1.1.1.) and the majority of the escapement.
A devilish-looking power-reserve backing, with “horns” and a black background, was the inspiration for the name of Freak Diavolo Only Watch. Ulysse Nardin used another cutting-edge technology – photolithography to make this piece exceptional. And with a new design, a flying tourbillon that indicates seconds, a new balance-wheel concept and two ball-bearing systems (make possible “flying” functions of the minute movement and the seconds-indicator tourbillon, without the need for a supporting bridge) this watch is really exceptional.
The flying tourbillon that replaced the usual oscillator has a specific case with an arrow. The case displays seconds on a blue half-circle, rotating in one minute on itself.

The in-house tourbillon carrousel needs 60 minutes to make the full circle around the center. A self-winding movement oscillates with the frequency of 4 Hz (28’800 alternations per hour) and guarantees an amazing power-reserve (more than eight days). You can wind the mechanism by turning a lower bezel (a full rotation provides 12 hours of power-reserve), while you need to use an upper bezel to adjust time.
Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo Only Watch is made of stainless steel and has a masculine case, with the diameter of 44.5 mm. An elegant, black crocodile strap complements the appealing and very unusual style of the watch. The Swiss watchmaker engraved “unique piece 1/1″ on the side of the case and put “Only Watch” below the 6 o’clock position to stress the great cause.
