Compared to other watches that will be sold at the Only Watch 2011 charity auction, one-of-a-kind masterpiece from Ikepod is something completely different. The beautiful Hourglass that comes in a unique, transparent red color represents both, a great piece of art and an accurate time-telling device.
There is no doubt that a lot of serious watch and art collectors consider this watch as one of the most interesting items from the Only Watch 2011 Collection, created to support a research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. All proceeds from the auction that will be held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on September 22, will help a battle against this most common fatal genetic disease of children.
The Ikepod Only Watch Hourglass is a valuable piece of art, completely hand-made from the single piece of borosilicate glass, like all the brand’s hourglasses that have already become highly sought after. This one is unique by a transparent, red-tinted lacquer that covers the glass from outside, making it look striking and refreshing. It has been the first time that Ikepod managed to paint glass for its products.
Once again, the aesthetic vision of an Australian designer, Marc Newson, is the main reason why the piece of glass looks so wonderful – modern and classic at the same time. At the first glance, the Ikepod Hourglass seams so simple, but after the involvement of other senses (after you touch it, turn around and listen to a pleasant sound of nano balls bouncing and moving upside down), you will realize the perfection of every single detail of it. This explains why the Time Magazine selected Newson among the world’s Top 100 most influential people.
So far, Ikepod launched two types of hourglasses – the larger one that counts 60 minutes, and the smaller one which is a 10 minutes timer. Both versions offer a choice of different nano balls (coated either with black stainless steel, stainless steel, copper or yellow gold). For Only Watch 2011, Ikepod has created a mini version which is 15 cm tall and 12.5 cm wide, with the weight of 1.5 kg. It is filled with 1.2 million stainless steel nano balls.
