Zenith has started a planned long-term collaboration with Range Rover with the launch of a special edition timekeeper. The piece called Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition is a dark-faced chronograph set in a body made of ceramicised aluminum. It is equipped with the fast-paced El Primero automatic mechanical movement with an extensive power reserve. As expectedly, it features appropriate details and inscriptions that demonstrate its origin. Despite its name, the watch will not be a limited edition piece. Its price is set at around $7,700.
Range Rover and Zenith are two household names in their fields. Interestingly, they share another similarity apart from the success in their respective industries. This common feature is the importance of year 1969. This is a birth year of both Zenith El Primero chronograph and Range Rover, the world’s first luxury SUV.
These two companies are now joined even more with a watch which is supposed to be a starting model in the planned long-term collaboration. When it comes to the piece itself, Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition is basically a regular El Primero with several customized details, such as the presence of a winding rotor with the logos of the brands, as well as a ceramicised aluminum housing which is supposed to resemble the chassis of a Range Rover vehicle.
The watch is pretty restrained in size and it has the diameter of 41 mm. Its round housing with a fixed bezel and a serrated crown features a cambered sapphire crystal at the front, as well as a panel in the same material on the opposite side which allows the wearer to see the movement. The watch is waterproof to 100 meters.
Beneath the sapphire crystal lays a dark gray dial with a brushed finish. It includes applied hour markers and hands that are rhodium-treated and covered with luminous coating. There are three chrono sub-dials and a date aperture on its bottom.
When it comes to the beating heart of the watch, Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition supports caliber El Primero 400 B. It is an automatic chronograph movement with 328 components and 31 jewels. As it is common for El Primero calibers, it ticks at the frequency of 5 Hz and it stores the power reserve which lasts for around 50 hours. The self-winding movement is 30 mm wide and 6.6 mm thick.
Zenith El Primero Range Rover Special Edition is paired with a rubber strap which is coated with perforated calfskin. Two available colors for the attachment are ivory and blue. The strap fastens with a triple folding clasp made of black PVD coated titanium.
