In order to mark its historic links with the high-end sportsmen, Vulcain launched a contemporary, 42mm version of its famous vintage chronograph. Made in three variations, new 50s Presidents’ Chronograph Heritage watches bring back the graphic design of the original dial. In addition, the renowned watchmaker from Le Locle presented an exclusive new range of self-winding mono-pusher chronographs.
By the early 20th century, Vulcain was already well established in Spanish speaking countries and a part of that success resulted from its close ties with the world of football. There was a very interesting letter that Real Madrid’s coach, Francisco Bru, wrote to the Swiss watchmaker in 1934, in which he testified about the importance of Vulcain’s chronographs during Spanish Champion’s training sessions. This heritage served as the great inspiration for the high-end manufacturer to create the vintage mono-pusher chronograph with the classic design and advance mechanics.
The size of the new 50s Presidents’ Chronograph Heritage is adjusted to the contemporary standards. Its 42mm case is crafted in 316L steel with nicely polished finishes and it is fitted on an elegant black Louisiana alligator strap with a steel pin buckle. The dial comes in three variations: the first one is black with brown transfer; furthermore, there is an “eggshell” white dial with black transfer and finally, a silver-toned dial with blue transfer. Each of them brings back the past with the same design of the historical model, including the identical font, a minute track, chrono sub-dials and a pulsometric scale followed by the inscription “Gradué pour 30 pulsations” (graduated for 30 heartbeats). The small-seconds sub-dial is located at the 9 o’clock position, while the 30-minute chronograph takes the 3 o’clock position.
Visible through a sapphire-crystal case-back, there is a high-quality Calibre V-57 self-winding chronograph mechanism, operated with a single pusher. It comprises just 105 parts and 25 rubies, oscillates at the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides 42 hours of power reserve.
New 50s Presidents’ Chronograph
Vulcain has also presented an exclusive new range of 50s Presidents’ Mono-Pusher Chronographs that possess basically the same characteristics as the heritage model, with the exception of their dials’ design. Charcoal gray, silver or blue, sunray dials of these modern sport chronographs are extremely legible, featuring two large sub-dials and a date aperture. There is no pulsometric scale and Arabic numerals. Instead, there is a large numeral 12 and applied, tiny hour markers.
The new 50s Presidents’ Mono-Pusher Chronograph also features a 316L steel case, accompanied with an elegant leather strap, either black or brown. The diameter of the case is also the same, as well as the Calibre V-57 self-winding mechanism that powers the watch.
