Right in time to celebrate the Chinese 2014 Year of Horse, as well as to salute the grand opening of its first Monoboutique in Beijing, Vulcain has enriched its enamel collection with the new 50s Presidents’ “Pegasus” model.

Vulcain Pegasus In The Sky Watch
The luxury watch manufacturer, Vulcain, has chosen Pegasus as one of the best-known mythological creatures in Greek mythology. Although the symbolism of Pegasus has varied through the time, this winged divine became an emblem of poetry and inspiration in the 19th century. It is usually depicted as pure white in color and it is a symbol of wisdom and especially of fame.
This mythological creature was captured by the Korinthian hero Bellerophon near the Perene fountain with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Pegasus allowed the Greek hero to ride him into battle against the fire-breathing monster, the Chimera, before accomplishing many other exploits. Because of his faithful service to Zeus, he was rewarded by being transformed into the constellation Pegasus and placed up in the sky.

Vulcain Pegasus In The Sky Watch Dial
Vulcain presents two 50S Presidents’ Cricket “Pegasus” models: In the Sky (ref. 200 550.319L) and On the Mountain (ref. 200 550.318L). Each model is individually-numbered and produced in limited quantity of only 18 pieces.
Both models are housed in round cases crafted from 5N 18-karat pink gold. Each case measures 42mm in diameter and 14.6mm in thickness and features a domed shape sapphire crystal glass, while on the case back, a sapphire reveals the stylized “V” that stands for Vulcain. The water resistance of the case is assured down to 50 meters (about 165 feet).

The dial features “Grand Feu” cloisonné enamel. This complex technique means that the outline of the dial design is produced either on the dial itself, or on paper. The highly skilled enamelling technique involves applying fine strips of gold wire, only 0.07 mm wide, hand bent and applied to the outline using two pliers. Furthermore, the individual cells that give the detail to the image are also formed by gold wire and set within the outline.
