With its new masterpiece, the famous Swiss watch manufacturer celebrates the Chinese Zodiac and the year of the horse that will start from February 2014, replacing the actual snake sign. This marvelous extension of the renowned Métiers d’Art collection comes in two versions, either made of pink gold or platinum, each of which is limited to just 12 pieces. New Legends of the Chinese Zodiac – Year of the Horse models which present valuable engraving and enameling techniques, on its stunning, hands-free dial, will be exclusively available in Vacheron Constantin Boutiques.
The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac is an exclusive line of artistic watches, based on the 12-year cycle. Hence, the series are limited to 12 pieces. In the following year, we are entering Year of the Horse, which was new inspiration for the brand’s craftsmen and artisans to come up with these exquisite creations. By following principles of the art of paper-cutting or Jianzhi that was born in China, Vacheron Constantin provided beautiful decoration for their dials. They showcase the leaf motif, characteristic for classic Chinese iconography, which is directly engraved on a gold dial. By subtle stage-setting of numerous reliefs applied to the golden base, the brand’s engravers created a great depth effect, while threads which represent bamboo stalks look like floating over the surface. The most impressive work is visible on the horse figure, with the every single detail executed to the perfection. After engravings, the Swiss watchmaker applied very rare, Grand Feu enamelling technique, which emphasized the visual intensity of the colored dial.
Thanks to a high-end Calibre 2460 G4, the Legend of the Chinese Zodiac watch displays time and date in a truly unique way. Instead of using hands, this great timepiece features four apertures, placed around the central motif, to reveal discs that show hours, minutes, day and date. Visible through a sapphire crystal case-back, the self-winding movement incorporates a 22 karat gold oscillating mass, decorated by dynamic geometrical motif based on the shape of the Maltese Cross. This mechanism operates at the frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and ensures around 40 hours of power-reserve.
Version with a rose gold case features a brown dial and a matching stylish leather strap, while the titanium version comes with a blue dial and a black leather strap. Both cases come with the diameter of 40 mm and have nicely polished finishes.
