Celebrating the 14th anniversary of the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II (AP QEII) Cup in Hong Kong, the renowned Swiss watchmaker launched a Limited Edition of watches from its Classic Collection. Inspired by the brand’s historic 1923 cushion-shaped pocket watch, the new Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup 2012 timepiece shows a sophisticated blend of distinctive elegance and luxury.
Being a dedicated supporter of various sports competitions around the globe, the famous manufacturer of high-end timepieces has been the partner with the Hong Kong Jockey Club since 1999, sponsoring the AP QEII Cup race, which is the year’s central event in the equestrian world. The new series of 100 timepieces perfectly represents refinement and glamour which are gathered each year around this exquisite event.
The new Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup 2012 timepiece took over the distinctive cushion-shaped case of historic model, which is for this occasion crafted in 18 karat pink gold. A subtle combination of polished lugs and edges with brushed finishes of a bezel nicely emphasizes the large, open white lacquered dial and its hand applied Arabic numerals and stylish hands.
The watch looks even prettier from the back side. The pink gold part of the case-back is engraved with the Audemars Piguet QE II CUP 2012 – Limited Edition and the number of a model, while the central, glare-proofed sapphire crystal glass completely reveals inner-parts. It is the in-house Calibre 2120 that powers the watch. This self-winding movement oscillates at the frequency of 19,800 vibrations per hour and ensures the power reserve up to 40 hours. It provides just basic timekeeping functions, but be sure that they will be followed with the remarkable accuracy for a long period of time.
The stylish look of the AP’s QE II CUP 2012 watch is completed with a hand-stitched “large square scale” brown crocodile strap that comes with an 18 karat pink gold pin buckle.
The 14th QEII Cup race took place on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Shatin Racecourse. It was preceded by the gala party that Audemars Piguet organizes in partnership with the Hong Kong Jockey Club on Friday, April 27.
