In order to support the Leo Messi Foundation, Audemars Piguet in collaboration with Sotheby’s Geneva and the famous football player will organize the auction of a Royal Oak Chronograph Leo Messi Watch. The tenth timepiece from the last year’s limited series will be sold at the auction of Important Watches to be held on May 11, 2013 in Geneva. This is not all. Along with several precious souvenirs, the future owner of this stunning watch will get once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the football legend in Barcelona.
All the proceeds from the sale of the No.10 Royal Oak Chronograph Leo Messi watch will be donated to the football star’s foundation, helping the rehabilitation of the Children Public Hospital in Messi’s home city of Rosario. The watch was produced in 2012 in the Limited Edition of 100 pieces and it has been chosen as the tenth piece from the series, indicating Leo Messi’s number 10 on FC Barcelona and Argentina shirts. The timepiece will be presented to the lucky bidder, along with an Argentina national team’s number 10 jersey, autographed by Leo Messi, as well as with the original drawing of the watch signed by the football player and the Swiss brand’s Chief Artistic Officer, Octavio Garcia.
The world’s best football player today and, most probably, the best player in history was highly gratitude to all who supports his Foundation and its struggle to provide that children and adolescents around the globe have equal opportunities, with a focus on education and health care. “I want to use my own efforts and my own success to help those children in most need because it moves me daily to see a child smile, when he thinks there is hope or when I see that he feels happy. That is why we decided to create the Leo Messi Foundation and I will keep fighting to make children happy with the same enthusiasm and dedication that drive me in pursuing my football career”, said Messi.
Head of Watches, Sotheby’s Europe, Geoffroy Ader said that its house felt privileged to organize the auction of the Leo Messi timepiece. “Watchmakers and sports people have in common a constant search for excellence and authenticity and we are delighted to be able to join forces with Audemars Piguet and Leo Messi who embody these values in their respective fields”, said Mr. Ader.
Featuring a platinum case, a tantalum bezel and a dark blue satin-brushed dial, the Royal Oak Leo Messi Limited Edition watch is original, bold looking sport watch that will certainly be very interesting piece for collectors and passionate football fans. Before the auction, the timepiece will be exhibited at Sotheby’s Hong Kong (April 3-8), Sotheby’s London (April 12-15), Sotheby’s Zurich (May 2-3) and finally, at Sotheby’s Geneva (May 9-10).
