Even the good connoisseurs of the renowned Swiss brand cannot, at the first glance, be a hundred percent sure whether these are Hublot’s timepieces. They clearly feature some trademarks of the brand’s Classic Fusion Collection. However, a distinctive dial design, the absence of Hublot’s logo and the use of yellow gold make us feel surprised with the overall look of Shawn Carter by Hublot watch. Specially designed by the hip-hop icon, also known as Jazz-Z, the new Classico Ultra-Thin timepiece comes in two stunning versions, one made of 3N yellow gold and the other one featuring a bold looking, black ceramic case.
The Shawn Carter decided to create these special models for his upcoming pop-up installation at Barney’s in New York, in November when the Classic Fusion Editions will be officially presented. While the black ceramic model comes in the limited series of 250 pieces, the yellow gold version is even more exclusive, since only 100 examples are produced.
For those who follow Shawn Carter’s work, it should not be a surprise that this famous artist collaborates with a high-end watchmaker since he is known as the avid watch aficionado, neither that that watchmaker is Hublot whose models have already appeared on Jay-Z’s wrist in his videos. While these were the brand’s robust models, this time he chose the elegant, ultra-thin Classic Fusion Collection. In most cases, special editions dedicated to a celebrity do not differ much from the originals. However, Shawn Carter Classic Fusion by Hublot watches bear the high amount of originality.
The case is robust in diameter (45 mm), but at the same time, it is by far the slimmest Hublot’s case that houses a 2.90mm thick mechanism. The polished surface of the case makes a great contrast with a satin-finished bezel which is fixed with six titanium screws. The yellow gold version features a matching golden dial with sunburst finish and polished yellow gold applied markers. The black dial of the ceramic version is decorated with sandblasted finish and comes with polished ceramic markers and hands. The highlight of the dial is a Shawn Carter’s Maltese Cross inspired logo in the center that partially reveals the inner-work. At its upper part, there is a very interestingly designed small-seconds display. Finally, there are stylish black leather straps which complete the impressive overall looks of these models.
The Calibre HUB1300 hand-winding mechanism is completely revealed through a transparent sapphire crystal case-back. It ensures the superb power-reserve of up to 90 hours. The movement that powers the ceramic model is finished in black rhodium, while the mechanism inside the gold version is gold plated.
