Last month, at SalonQP in London, the Schofield Watch Company presented its latest timepiece named the Blacklamp Carbon. This novelty boasts totally new implementations of luminous substances in a wristwatch.

The watch’s crown houses a Tritum gas light that emits a constant glow which dims by day and more visibly by night. Around the dial rim, beneath the crystal, there is a “Moonglow” ring which illuminates the watch’s dial in the dark and in low-light conditions. This unique luminous material is developed by NASA.

Almost every non-movement part of the new Schofield Blacklamp Carbon Watch is made in England. That includes the case which is crafted from a type of carbon fiber matrix called “Morta”. This material is hand-laid and formed into small billets. Every timepiece is unique because a single billet is used to create each watch case.

The grooved dial is crafted from black-lacqured brass, featuring concentric engraving in a two-tiered format. The futuristic dial comprises a combination of numerals (0, 3 and 9) and indexes. There is also a subsidiary dial located at the 6 o’clock position. The hour and minute hands are shaped like the sides of the brand’s logo, thus recalling projected beams of light. Every single detail on the dial is well sized to match with the watch’s dimensions.

The beating heart of the Blacklamp Carbon Watch is a Unitas 6498-2 manual winding movement with a custom hack mechanism, broad Geneva stripes and heavy rhodium plating. The impeccable mechanism offers 45 hours of autonomy when fully wound. The plates feature a black finish which adds a contemporary aesthetics to the movement when viewed through the transparent case back.

The new Schofield is produced in the limited series of only 101 pieces. Each timepiece is named after an individual lighthouse in England and bears its coordinates. The watch is available at the Schofield online store for L9,900 (about $16,190). Furthermore, the Schofield Watch Company has prepared a little bonus. If you purchase the Blacklamp Carbon Watch, you will get an English-made 500-lumen flashlight with each piece that can be used to activate the Moonglow ring.
