Romain Jerome has launched its very first fully skeleton watch named the Skylab for NASA’s first space station. Thus, RJ celebrates the 40th anniversary of its launch and pays homage to the man’s accomplishments and exploration of space. According to the Romain Jerome, each Skylab watch on its bezel contains material from the Apollo 11 mission.

The new collection from RJ features an avant-garde design; without dial, with a fully skeletonized movement and the famous RJ case with four struts grabbing the bezel. The Skylab model is housed in a 44mm wide case and comes either as a stainless steel, stainless steel with a black PVD-coated bezel or black PVD-coated steel case and paws with a rose gold bezel.
The new Skylab is quite interesting because it is the first RJ skeleton timepiece where you can easily see all the movement parts which are sandwiched between two pieces of sapphire crystal glass.

Romain Jerome Skylab Skeleton Watch is powered with the caliber RJ004-M which oscillates at the rapid frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz) and has a power reserve of 48 hours. The design of the movement is very modern. The method of skeletonization looks futuristic and the bridge design seems to be very fitting for the RJ. The movement provides only the time function with central hours and minutes, along with a sub-dial seconds indicator near the 9 o’clock position.
Every single part of the movement seems like it is floating in space, cautiously held by angled bridges, while the transparent sapphire glass at the back enhances the sense of zero gravity highlighting the single barrel at the 12 o’clock position and revealing the balance wheel on the opposite side, at the 6 o’clock position. The RJ’s monogram subtly appears at the 3 o’clock position on the interior level.
Depending on a model, the hour and minute hands are either rhodiumed, black or red-colored. They are satin-brushed and filled on the tips with superluminova C1 « blue emission » for the best legibility in low light conditions.
