Romain Jerome has unveiled its new Skylab 48 Skull collection which is the brand’s first skeleton movement characterized by straight vertical and horizontal bridges. The new collection consists of 12 models, each being enhanced with a skeletonized and differently colored skull-shaped aluminum applique held by two functional screws to allow maximum transparency of the movement.
As you can see on the image above, the arrangement reveals the barrel at the 12 o’clock position, whereas the balance wheel which is mainly visible from the rear, now can be seen at the 6 o’clock position, and there is also a train located at the 9 o’clock position.
RJ Skylab 48 Speed Metal Skull is powered by the in-house manufactured caliber RJ004-M mechanical movement which is capable to provide no less than 48 hours of power reserve when fully charged. The black chrome skeleton movement is built on 21 rubies and has a beating pace of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz). The mechanism consists of three layers formed by the plate, the bridges and the skull applique. The latter is set on the motion-work which makes, not only a distinctive aesthetical element, but also a functional one.
The latest member of the Romain Jerome watch family is housed in a black PVD-coated stainless steel which contains fragments of Apollo 11, thus reminding us that it is yet another space-themed timepiece from the independent Swiss manufacturer.
Its large-sized case incorporates a black PVD-coated and satin-finished bezel and screw-lock crown both crafted from steel. From the rear, there is a sapphire crystal case back which offers a look on the complex maze of mechanism elements. The case construction provides water resistance up to 30 meters (approximately 100 feet).
The skeletonized hour and minute hands are rhodiumed and satin-brushed with Superluminova C1 “blue emission” on its tips for the best visibility in low lighting conditions. The watch is secured to the wrist with a black alligator leather strap, ending with a steel folding clasp.
Romain Jerome offers 12 models with differently colored skulls and each model is limited to only 9 specimens. The retail price is $23,500.
