This year, Batman celebrates its 75th Anniversary and for this occasion, the contemporary Swiss manufacturer is launching its first Super Hero watch, named the Batman-DNA. The new Romain Jerome Batman-DNA timepiece is created in collaboration with Warner Bros Consumer Products and it is inspired by the Dark Knight, a fictional superhero from the imaginary place called Gotham City. The watch is produced in a limited series of 75 examples, to match the Batman’s years.
The new special celebratory model boasts a glow-in-the-dark, Bat signal dial and a case shaped with angles on the bezel to remind of the Batmobile. The iconic Batman logo is applied in the center of the dial. It is filled with a black matt lacquer and surrounded with a black Superluminova C1 lume that glows in blue when the night falls. The Bat-Signal will appear in low light conditions. The dial also comprises a polished black RJ logo which is placed at the 12 o’clock position. The hour and minute hands are black, satin-brushed and skeletonized. They are treated with a matching blue luminous substance.
This all-black watch is housed in a round black PVD stainless steel case and measures 46mm in diameter. The lugs are faceted and satin-finished in black PVD-coated steel, while the bezel which is also faceted in black PVD-coated steel, has been polished and satin-brushed.
When you turn the watch upside down, you will see an engraved Batman medallion, with RJ’s signature “rough” finish. Among other inscriptions, the back side of the watch reveals the commemorative inscription “The Dark Knight”, as well as limited edition serial number.
The Romain Jerome Batman-DNA (ref. RJ.T.AU.WB.001.01) is powered with the Swiss made caliber RJ001-A automatic mechanical movement. The self-winding mechanism ticks at the pace of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). The caliber is mounted on 23 jewels and it is capable to store enough energy to keep the watch ticking for at least 42 hours.
The new watch that celebrates the caped crusader’s 75th birthday is secured to the wearer’s wrist with a black hornback textured crocodile leather strap. Its case is sealed against the ingress of water up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). The newest Batman-themed watch can be purchased for $18,500 or 14,950 Swiss francs.
This celebratory timepiece is the first watch relationship between RJ-Romain Jerome and DC Comics, but the concept is by no means a surprise, considering the fact that the Swiss watchmaker is famous for producing limited edition timepieces in honor of pop culture icons.
