As a part of the long-term partnership with Formula 1, the renowned Swiss watchmaker will be the Official Timekeeper and the Official Timepiece of F1, starting from the next year. During each Grand Prix, Rolex will display time in different locations. Besides, the brand’s logo will be located around the circuit and at several corners.
Renowned by its permanent support of global sport at the highest level, and being the major partner of the greatest events, especially in golf, tennis and yachting, Rolex straitened its links with motor-sport that date back in 1930s. For Gian Riccardo Marini, the Chief Executive Officer of Rolex SA, the newest partnership with Formula 1 is natural, so that needs little explanation. “In our respective fields, Rolex and Formula One embody the spirit of adventure, superlative engineering and a strong desire to push the limits of technology. These aspirations are enormously appealing to younger generations”, said Marini. As he added, Rolex watches are the symbols of the quest for the highest level of performance and reliability, which is epitomized by Formula One.
Bernie Ecclestone, the CEO of the Formula One group is also convinced in the choice of the perfect partner. “This partnership is something that many people interested in Formula One will have been waiting for and should rightly be excited about. Rolex has incredible sporting heritage and therefore Formula One is the right place for Rolex to be”, said Mr. Ecclestone.
The following year will be very special for Rolex also for marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic Cosmograph Daytona Chronograph. The Rolex’s partnership with Formula 1 means the end of the Hublot’s role of the Official F1 Timekeeper that began in 2010. Another high-end Swiss watchmaker that was the important part in the history of Formula One is Tag Heuer.
