The Chinese Year of the Monkey is fast approaching, and so far several watchmakers announced their special edition watches to join celebration. Among them there is the house of Piaget which offers a special edition of its flagship Altiplano timepiece.
This newcomer boasts a hand-made dial depicting the seated monkey holding a peach which is a symbol of immortality in China. Its beautiful dial is encrusted by the hand of a master enameler, Anita Porchet, using the technique of Cloisonné enamelling. In her interpretation, the ninth character of Chinese Horoscope is illustrated against a soft greyish background, which resembles a winter sky.
A master enameler, Anita Porchet, partitioned the enamel using cloisons, which are compartments made on the dial surface, by soldering silver wires situated on their edges, in order to isolate colors in the best possible way and to provide clear vision.
The breathtaking dial is embedded in the 18-karat white gold case enhanced with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds. This elegant case measures 38mm in diameter and fits perfectly onto the average size of a woman’s wrist.
The beating heart of the watch is the in-house manufactured Piaget 430P ultra-thin mechanical manual-winding movement. The mechanism offers indications for hours and minutes, and it promises up to 43 hours of power reserve when fully charged.
Piaget Altiplano Year of the Monkey Watch (ref. G0A40540) is produced in the limited series of only 38 pieces available exclusively in Piaget Boutiques.
The new watch from the Altiplano family that celebrates the Chinese Year of the Monkey comes with a sleek, black alligator leather strap, fitted with a white gold pin buckle.
The Year of the Monkey begins on February 8, 2016 and it will be a year of discovery, adventure, questions and answers, when luck can strike at bizarre times and when fortunes can turn in the blink of an eye. It is believed that people born in the Year of the Monkey are generally lively, quick-witted, straightforward and out-spoken.
