Patek Philippe has decided to launch two restricted series of watches in order to commemorate the fifth anniversary of its boutique which is located in Tiffany & Co. flagship New York store. The new limited editions (one of them is a men’s timekeeper, while the other is for ladies) are made together by the famous brands from watchmaking and jewelry industries, and will bear insignias of them both. Men’s Annual Calendar watch is constructed in 100 copies, whereas Ladies Gondolo timepiece is limited to 50 timekeepers. These commemorative products are available in the boutique whose anniversary they celebrate, as well as in various Tiffany’s shops around the United States.
Classic Elegance – Men’s Annual Calendar 5396G Watch
The new men’s watch with the reference number 5396G was made specifically for this occasion. It is an elegant timekeeper set in a circular 18K white gold housing of the subdued diameter of 38mm which is the size more typical for classical watches, and is not seen that often in modern men’s products. Men’s Annual Calendar 5396G timepiece has a black dial with applied white gold Breguet-styled Arabic numerals and leaf-shaped hands made from the same precious metal. As it is hinted by the name of the watch, it includes apertures for indications for day, month (which are placed above the center of the dial) and date (which sits at the bottom of the face). Besides, the timepiece has moon phases and 24-hour scale display.
Each of the functions is enabled by the inclusion of a self-winding mechanical caliber 324 S QA LU 24H. The movement made of 347 components beats at the frequency of 4 Hz and features unidirectional winding and a power reserve that lasts around 45 hours. The automatic caliber is exposed through the sapphire exhibition case back (sapphire is of course used for the crystal as well) and engraved with the inscription “Patek Philippe – A Shared Vision – 2008-2013 – Tiffany & Co”. For the attachment, giants of watchmaking and jewelry chose a matt black alligator leather strap with rectangular scales. The hand-stitched wristlet fastens with a fold-over clasp. Men’s Annual Calendar timekeeper 5396G-012 features basic water resistance of 30 meters.
Shiny Art-Deco Styled Quartz Models
The limited edition ladies’ timekeeper made for the anniversary is likewise made with a housing from white gold. However, in this instance, the case is tonneau-shaped (34.2mm long and 28.76mm wide), while its bezel is set with 164 diamonds (with the total weight of approximately 0.63 carat) placed in two rows. Unlike the men’s watch, ladies commemorative watch is more about the glitz of precious stones and less about the watchmaking quality – the watch features a quartz Caliber E 15 movement.
White Mother-of-Pearl or Blue Dial
There are actually two versions of this watch that sport different dials and straps. The model 4987G-011 has a white mother-of-pearl face with powdered gold Roman numerals, whereas the variation 4987G-012 sports a matt blue sunburst dial with white painted Roman numerals. Both versions are made with white gold hands. The hour hand of the commemorative Patek Philippe-Tiffany’s ladies’ timekeeper is in Breguet shape, while the minute hand has a leaf (or feuille) styling.
As far as attachments are concerned, the white m-o-p version is paired with a vanilla-colored satin strap, whereas the blue one features a matching dark blue wristlet made from the same material. In both cases, the strap closes with a prong buckle. Just like the men’s piece, the ladies’ one is water proof to 30 meters. The ladies’ commemorative piece is also made in a limited edition restricted to 25 pieces in each of the available colors.
Long-Lasting Partnership, Established by the Founders of Patek Philippe and Tiffany’s
As it has been said, the watches are made to mark the fifth anniversary of Patek Philippe’s boutique that is special because it is the first shop of the celebrated watchmaker on the U.S.soil. This boutique offers all the latest collections by the brand and also temporarily exhibits some of the important historic watches from PatekPhilippeMuseumin Geneva. Apart from the significance for the watchmaking brand as its initial boutique in the states, this shop is important because of its location – it is placed on the mezzanine of Tiffany’s Flagship store on Fifth Avenue. This is one of the iconic landmarks of the Big Apple, used as a location for numerous films, and especially eternalized in the classic movie Brekfast at Tiffany’s.
The collaboration between Patek Philippe and Tiffany Co. itself is actually very long-lasting, since it started in 1851 by the agreement of founders of both brands. Previously, there was another joint watch of two companies, made for the 150th anniversary of said collaboration. It was T 150 watch with features that were fairly similar to their new watch we reviewed in this article.
