The partnership between Parmigiani Fleurier and Bugatti started thirteen years ago when the French ultra luxury brand was looking for the respectable watchmaking company which will meet its exacting criteria. Bugatti was seeking for a relatively young manufacturer characterized with technical excellence, the elegance of forms and the heightened awareness of design. Also, the prestigious brand needed an independent watchmaker who could provide the production freedom crucial for limitless creative potential. The Fleurier-based manufacturer became the obvious choice. Since 2001, Parmigiani Fleurier aim to create watches for the Bugatti collection which are far more than classic watches stamped with a car marque logo.

The latest model that celebrates this partnership, Parmigiani Bugatti Aerolithe, is a stunner that really resembles the iconic car of the same name that was unveiled back in 1935 by Ettore Bugatti at the Paris motor show. Shortly after that, this unique model vanished from the face of the earth. It left behind just one photograph, a few sketches, and the memory of an enigmatic pale green color.
The new Parmigiani Bugatti flyback chronograph is powered with the self-winding caliber PF 335 that features two series-coupled barrels, Cotes de Geneve decoration and beveled bridges. The 68 jewels movement provides full 50 hours of power reserve when fully wound and oscillate at the rapid frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz).
The newest member of the Bugatti collection is housed in a titanium case which measures 41mm in diameter and 12.55mm in thickness. Its polished and satin-finished case incorporates an 18-karat white gold bezel, as well as a white gold crown and two white gold push-pieces. The case is protected with anti-reflective sapphire crystals and provides water resistance of up to 30 meters (about 100 feet).

Underneath the front sapphire glass, there is an abyss blue dial which is off-set beautifully by the vivid red chronograph hands; the central chronograph seconds hand and 30-minute counter’s hand located at the 3 o’clock position. A small seconds sub-dial is located on the opposite side, at the 9 o’clock position. A curved date window is placed at the six o’clock position, just below the brand’s logo. The dial also feature an opaline center, rhodium-plated appliqué indexes with luminescent coating and delta-shaped hands also filled with luminous substance, whilst satin-finished flange nicely rounds the dial surface.
This novelty comes with a Hermès grained blue calfskin leather strap which is off-set by vivid red lacquered sides and a red inside of the strap. Finally, the buckle is completely redesigned to symbolize a car grille, thus the Bugatti DNA will encircle the wearer’s wrist from all angles. Parmigiani Bugatti Aerolithe will be available from December 2013.
